Prayer Thot of the Day (Aug 17)

‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

Backgrounder: Louisa Stead and
her husband were relaxing with
their four-year old daughter on
a Long Island beach when they
heard a desperate child’s cry.
A boy was drowning and Louisa’s
husband tried to rescue him.
In the process however the boy
pulled Mr Stead under the water
and both drowned. Louisa was
left with no means of support
and experienced dire poverty.
One morning when she had
neither funds nor food for the day
she opened the front door and
found that someone had left
food and money in her doorstep.
That day she wrote this hymn,
inspired partly by John 14.

Lord, we will trust in You:
Jesus said: Don’t let your hearts
be troubled. Trust in God, and
trust also also in me. There is
more than enough room in my
Father’s home… When everything
is ready, I will come and get you,
so that you will always be with
me where I am (John 14:1-3).

Lord, in life challenges, we will
not let our hearts be troubled
but choose to keep trusting U
to deliver on your promises.
We trust in U with all our heart;
and lean not on our thot; for we
purpose to live by faith, not sight.
For my God knows the plans He
has for me, plans to prosper me
and not to harm me, to give me
a future and a hope (Jer 29:11).
We may have afflictions but the
Lord Will Deliver us; and in all
situations, we are more than
conqueror thro him who loved us.
Meanwhile we choose to keep
faith, trusting U will protect and
provide for in due time we’ll reap.
And thank you for the hymnal
comfort and reminder. Jesus,
Jesus, how I trust Him! How
I’ve proved him o’er & o’er! O for
grace to trust Him more. Amen.

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word,
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know: Thus saith the Lord

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er & o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, previous Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease,
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest ang joy and peace.

I’m so glad I learned to trust Him,
Previous Jesus, Saviour, Friend,
And I know that He is with me,
Will be with me to the end.
