Praying thro 1 Kings

Nov 25
Friends, we’ve been systematically
meditating through the bible to
better appreciate its chronological
context and see how the Mega
Theme develops thro each book.

So, we covered 5 books of Laws
& Job to understand deeper the
plan of God and His sovereignty.
We then meditated on the six
historical books up to King David
(the high point of Israel history)
and Psalms where we learn
to pray, thank and praise God.

We then go on to the next phase
in 2 Chronicles, Proverbs,
Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes,
where we see the reign of Solomon.
Continuing we go to I Kings.

King Solomon’s illustrious life is
set forth in the first half of 1 Kings,
Under his leadership, Israel rises
to its peak of power and glory.
The crowning touch comes with
the construction of the temple
in Jerusalem. But Solomon’s
zeal for God cools as pagan wives
turn his heart away from godly
worship. Solomon dies a man
divided religiously, leaving behind
a nation divided physically.
The next century sees the decline
of the two nations, each growing
indifferent to God’s prophets
and precepts.

We will cover I Kings over one weekend under two divisions:
United Kingdom (IKings 1-11)
Divided Kingdom (1Kings 12-22)
