Praying thro 2 Samuel (Jun 17)

Over last six weeks, we had
been meditating on the first
four books of Israelite history.
From Joshua the importance of
obeying God & doing it His way.
Fr Judges, disobedience means
defeat & repentance deliverance.
From Ruth, human faithfulness
facilitates God’s redemption plan.
From 1st Sam, God’s desire the
devotion of his people to him.
Next, we continue on the fifth
book of Israelite history 2nd Sam.

David, the king-elect in 1st Sam,
becomes the king-enthroned in
2nd Sam, ruling at first over
Judah and then over all Israel.
Characterised at first by victory,
David leads Israel to prominence.
But his reign is soon marred by
the sins of adultery and murder.
So turmoil and unrest rock the
kingdom for the rest of his life.
Despite personal weaknesses,
David remains “a man after
God’s own heart” because of
his repentant attitude and his
responsiveness to God’s will.

We’ll cover 2 Samuel over 2 parts:
2 Sam 1-10: David’s Successes
2 Sam 11-24: David’s Struggles
Look out for it/Chris
