Praising God thro Hymns (Jul 25)

The Lord’s My Shepherd,
Backgrounder: This 17th century
Scottish hymn is a faithful
paraphrase of David’s original.
This version was often sung
daily in Scottish cottages and
so the wordings became more
familiar to the people then and
with us than the Bible text itself.

Lord,we’ll Stay Close as yr sheep:
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green pastures
He leads me besides peaceful
streams. He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honour to his name
(Psa 23:1-3).

Lord, as vulnerable sheep,
it’s comforting to know that we
are not alone in life’s journey; but
we have U as the good shepherd
loving, caring & watching over us.

You will supply our needs and
that we shall not be in want.
You will provide Rest (by making
me lie down in green pastures),
Refreshment (by leading me
beside the still waters) and
Healing (for u restoreth my soul).
You will provide Guidance leading
us in the paths of righteousness.
You will provide Protection and
we need fear no evil for you are
faithful and U will be with us.

You will grant us Blessings (for
surely goodness & mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life)
And You provide us eternal
security (for we will dwell in
the house of the Lord Forever).

Thank you Lord for providing
ALL that we need and as your
sheep, may we always respond to
your voice and stay close to You.
I will follow U as U call my name.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

The Lord’s my Shepherd,
I’ll not want;
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness
E’en for His own name’s sake.

Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in God’s house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be.
