Prayer Thot of the Day (Aug 7)

How Great Thou Art
Backgrounder: Although this
hymn is often associated with
the crusades of Billy Graham,
it originated in 19th-century
Europe. In 1886 Swedish pastor
Carl Boberg was caught in
a sudden thunderstorm while
visiting a beautiful country estate
As the storm passed, giving way
to the sweet songs of birds and
a green countryside glistening
in sunlight, Boberg composed
the original stanzas of this hymn.

Lord, How Great Thou Art:
Look up into the heavens.
Who created all the stars?
Because of his great power
and incomparable strength,
not a single one is missing…
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the
earth, neither faints nor is weary.
He gives power to the weak,
and those who have no might He
increases strength (Isa 40:26-29)

Lord, we praise and honour you
for your strong creative power,
for your holiness and most of all
for your great love & mercy for us
by giving us your Son Lord Jesus.
Forgive us for being too busy
to be awed by your creation.
Forgive us for not always seeing
you in the light of your greatness
& doubting instead of trusting U.
Create great things for our
destiny and give us all we need
to live out the path you have
planned & guide us into it. Amen.

O Lord my God,
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made,
I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout
the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God to Thee:
How Great Thou art!
How Great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God to Thee:
How Great Thou art!
How Great Thou art!

And when I think that God,
His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die,
I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross,
my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died
to take away my sin.
