Thought for the Week: 1 Jn 5

God Listens & Holy Spirit Witnesses

Apostle John desires his spiritual
children enjoy close fellowship
with God & writes telling them how:
God is Light and therefore to
engage in fellowship with Him
means walking in the light of
His commandments. God is Love,
and thus His children must walk
in love. God is Life, and those
who desire fellowship with Him
must possess the spiritual life,
which begins with spiritual birth.

Lord, we’ll Overcome with Your Help:
Whatever is born of God overcomes
the world. And this is the victory
that has overcome the world – our
faith. Who is he who overcomes
the world but he who believes
that Jesus is the Son of God? And
it is the Spirit who bears witness
for the Spirit is truth (1Jn 5:4-5).
He who has the Son has life…
These things I have written to you
who believe in the name of the Son
of God, that you may Know that you
have eternal life, and that you may
continue to believe (1Jn 5:12-13).
This is the Confidence we have
in approaching God; that if we
ask anything according to His will,
He hears us. And if we Know that
He hears us – whatever we ask
– we Know that we have what
we asked of Him (1Jn 5:14-15).

Holy Spirit, Your Word says the key
to victory is faith and faith comes
by hearing by the Word of God.
Grant me supernatural victory
O Helper so that I may testify how
divine faith has restored my dignity,
renewed my joy and guided me
into God’s gracious plan for my life.
Meanwhile, help me abide in Christ
and fill my emptiness, for I am
more than a conqueror in You,
my Higher Power in Jesus name.

Lord Jesus, we face difficulties as
everyone else and Christians may be
targeted because they are believers.
And it’s a relief that You’re Lord over
even the evil one. All who belong
to You are eternally safe; and all
who opposed You will be defeated.
For You Lord had purchased us with
Your blood, You take us to Yourself,
and You Hold us securely. Amen.

Father God, it gives me Confidence
to know that if I ask according
to Your will, You will hear me
and I will have what I ask for.
So I come to You Lord as Your
beloved child and ask You to help
me pray according to Your will.
And I know I will receive good things
from You because it’s Your nature
to bless and You love me. Amen.

Reflection on John Epistles (Dec 24)

Trusting God thru His Promises

The purpose of the First epistle
of John is to reassure Christians
in their faith and to counter false teachings; while Second John
is to emphasise truth and love as
the key basics of following Christ.

On Monday, we learn from 1Jn 1
that God Promises Forgiveness.
On Tuesday, we learn from 1Jn 2
that Christ Is Advocate to Father.
On Wed, we learn from 1Jn 3 that God Promises we will Be Like Him.
On Thursday, we learn from 1Jn 4
that God Gives Ability to Love.
On Friday, we learn from 1 John 5
that God Listens to Our Prayers.
On Sat, we learn from 2/3 John
that God Urges Living in the Truth.

Let us humble ourselves and pray
and seek His face. Help us O God
be Christ’s disciples who trust You:
For You truly keep Your promises,
You listen to our prayers and
Christ Is our Advocate to Father;
For You promises forgiveness
and that we will be Like You;
For You urge us living in the Truth
and that You give us ability to love.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
