Thought for the Week: 2 Cor 1

God of All Comfort & Compassion

Paul opens his second epistle
to the Corinthians the same way
he began his first by establishing
his authority and documenting the
source of his revelation. He then
praises God for what He has done
for Timothy & him. In contrast to
the old covenant which condemned
the glorious new covenant sealed
in Jesus’ own blood, makes
God’s ministers bold & effective
in calling people to repentance.

Lord, we will Comfort Others:
Praise be to the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of Compassion and the
God of All Comfort, who comforts
us in all our troubles, so that we
can comfort those in any trouble
with the comfort we ourselves
have received from God.
For just as the sufferings of
Christ flow over into our lives,
so also through Christ our
comfort overflows ( 2Cor 1:3-5).

Lord, Thank You for the times
You have comforted me. I know
that You have comforted me so
that I can do the same for others.
This world is full of people who
are hurting. Make me sensitive
to those I meet who need Your
touch of comfort. Keep me an
open vessel through which Your
life, love & comfort can flow. Amen

Lord, suffering is painful and
confusing; and it is something
I avoid rather than embrace.
Teach me to respond in a godly
fashion to suffering for I know You
use difficulties to transform me.
And thank You for caring for me
& comforting me in all my troubles.
Bless me so that I can be creditable
and effective encourager of my
brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen

Lord, You don’t always give
us comfort in our suffering
the way we might ask or wish.
But Your comfort always come
and sometimes better than what
we might imagine. As we may
go through times of trouble
from time to time, help us O Lord
to look for Your comfort as
You promise in Your Word. Amen.

Meditating 1 John 3-5 (Sep 5)

Living Confidently In Love

The apostle John, who is enjoying
a delightful fellowship with God,
earnestly desires that his spiritual
children enjoy that same fellowship
and writes I John telling them how:
God Is Light and therefore to
engage in fellowship with Him
means walking in the light of
His commandments. God Is Love,
and thus His children must walk
in love. And God Is Life, and those
who desire fellowship with Him
must possess the spiritual life,
which begins with spiritual birth
through faith in Jesus Christ.

Lord, thank You through apostle
John You reveal the vital aspects
of our faith to give us confidence.
In our dark world, You God is light.
In the cold world, You bring the
warm of love. And in our dying
world, You bring life. Thank You
that when we lack confidence,
these truths bring us certainty.
Help us Respond to Your Love;
Help us Be Confident in Your Love;
Help us Come Confidently. Amen.

Lord, we’ll Respond to Your Love:
See what great love the Father
had lavished on us, that we
should be called children of
God! And that is what we are!
What we will be had not been
made known. But we know that
when Christ appears, we shall
be like him, for we shall see
him as he is (1 John 3:1-2).
Dear Abba Father, thank You
for loving us so much that You
call us & made us Your children.
I know that You greatly cares
for us and the various challenges
that we may face. And I humbly
come to You with all my needs.
Thank you for having Your arms
open to me, and for drawing me
near to You so that I can rest
in Your loving kindness. Amen.

Lord, we’ll be Confident In Yr Love:
God Is Love and all who live in love
live in God, and God lives in them.
And as we live in God, our love
grows more perfect. So we will not
be afraid on the day of judgment,
but can face Him with Confidence
because we are like Christ here in
this world. Such love has No Fear
because perfect love expels
all fear. We love Him because
He First Loved us (1Jn 4:16-19)
Lord, thank You for first loving us.
As we live in You, our love grows
more complete. Although I don’t
understand all the trials I may go
through, I trust in Your love for me.
Help me abide in You & Fill me with
Your perfect love that casts out fear.
Hence, I can Live In Confidence and
share Your amazing love with others.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Lord, we will Come Confidently:
This is the Confidence we have
in approaching God; that if we
ask anything according to His will,
He hears us. And if we Know that
He hears us – whatever we ask
– we Know that we have what
we asked of Him (1Jn 5:14-15).
Father, it gives me Confidence
to know that if I ask according
to Your will, You will hear me
and I will have what I ask for.
So I come to You as Your beloved
child and ask You to help me pray
according to Your will. And I know
I will receive only good things
from You because You love me
and accept me. In His name, Amen.
