Prayer Thot for the Day on Phil 2

God Gives Desire & Power to Obey

Philippians is a joyful letter, written
by Paul from a prison cell in Rome
to the church he founded on
his second missionary journey.
Despite adverse circumstances,
Philippians is an encouraging letter
in the midst of persecution. There
is much for Paul to rejoice about
especially the church’s steadfast
testimony for the gospel.

Lord, we’ll work out sanctification:
Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make
a good impression on others.
Be humble, thinking of others
as better than yourself. Don’t
think only about your own affairs,
but be interested in others too…
Your attitude should be the same
that Christ Jesus had (Phil 2:3-5)
Therefore, as you have always
obeyed… continue to work out
yr salvation with fear & trembling,
for it is God who works in you to
Will & to Act in order to fulfill His
good purpose (Phil 2:12-13) Amen

God Will Complete Good Work

Philippians is a joyful letter, written
by Paul from a prison cell in Rome
to one of the churches he founded
on his second missionary journey
(Acts16). Inspite of Paul’s adverse
circumstances, Philippians is a
letter of encouragement in the
midst of persecution. There is
much for Paul to rejoice about:
the Philippians’ repeated financial
assistance, the hope of visiting
the Philippian believers soon,
and the church’s steadfast
testimony for the gospel.

Lord, U will Complete Good Work:
I thank my God every time
I remember you. In all my prayers
for all of you, I always pray with
joy because of your partnership
in the gospel… Being confident
of this, that he who began a
good work in you will carry it
on to completion until the day
of Christ Jesus (Phil 1:3-6).
That you may be able to discern
what is best and may be pure
and blameless for the day of Christ
filled with the fruit of righteousness
that comes thro Christ to the glory
and praise of God (v10-11) Amen

Praying thro 2 Timothy (Jul 29)

Be Steadfast in Ministry
(Prayer Walk thro 2 Tim 3-4)

Paul writes his second letter to
Timothy from a Roman prison
(1:8,17) and death is imminent.
And yet the focus of Paul’s letter
is not on his own problems and
needs but on the problems and
needs of young Timothy who is
pastor of the church at Ephesus.
Paul, who has stood faithfully for
the Lord through his life, passes
on that same challenge to Timothy.
There’s no need to fear when
You serve the Lord of the universe
and endure hardship for His sake.

Dear Lord, we realise all believers
need a strong foundation for
Christian service does not get
easier as your return grows closer.
Lord, help us Fix our eyes on You;
help us to Receive Your Word;
help us Fulfill Our Ministry; and
help us Fight the Good Fight. Amen

Being Steadfast in Ministry
(Prayer Walk thro 2 Tim 1-2)

Paul writes his second letter to
Timothy from a Roman prison
(1:8,17) and death is imminent
(4:6). And he is cold and lonely.
And yet the focus of Paul’s letter
is not on his own problems and
needs but on the problems and
needs of young Timothy who is
pastor of the church at Ephesus.
Paul, who has stood faithfully for
the Lord throughout his life, now
passes on that same challenge
to Timothy. There is no need to
fear persecution or pain, when
You serve the Lord of the universe
and endure hardship for His sake.

Dear Lord, we realise all believers
need a strong foundation for
Christian service does not get
easier as we grow older; and it
will become no easier as the time
of Christ’s return grows closer.
Lord, prompt us to Pray for others,
lead us to Pass On Your Truths &

Prayer Thot for the Day on Eph 6

God Provides You Spiritual Armour

Walk Worthy of your calling…You
are rich in Christ, so live that way!
The Christian’s conduct should
be consistent with his calling.
You are rich in Christ, endowed
with spiritual blessings. So learn
to walk in the light of that wealth.
A spiritual war rages & those who
use the armour of God will be able
to stand agst Satan’s wily attacks.

Lord, we will Put On Your Armour:
Put On the full Armour of God
so that you can take your stand
against the devil’s schemes…
Take up the shield of faith, with
which you can extinguish all the
flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and
the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God. And Pray in
the Spirit on all occasions with
all kinds of prayers… be alert
and always keep on praying for
all the saints (Eph 6:11-18) Amen

God Enables Spirit Filled Life

Walk Worthy of your calling…You
are rich in Christ, so live that way!
The Christian’s conduct should
be consistent with his calling.
You are rich in Christ, endowed
with spiritual blessings. So learn
to walk in the light of that wealth.
Also Live Wisely, Be Filled with
the Spirit & Give Thanks always.

Lord, we purpose to Live Wisely:
Be careful how you live. Don’t
live like fools, but like those who
are Wise, redeeming the time,
because the days are evil.
Therefore do not be unwise, but
understand what the will of God is.
Let the Holy Spirit Fill and Control you. Then you will sing hymns and spiritual songs to the Lord. And you
will always Give Thanks for every-
thing to God (Eph 5:15-20) Amen.

God Loves and Empowers You

Backgrounder on Ephesians 1-3:
The Ephesians had unlimited
spiritual wealth at their disposal,
yet they lived as spiritual paupers.
So Paul wrote to encourage
them to understand and claim
their heavenly resources. Only
then could they draw on them for
their earthly walk. And In Christ,
Christians are endowed with every
spiritual blessing as well as adoptn,
redemption, inheritance and power.

Lord, we seek Your Love & Power:
I pray that from His glorious,
unlimited resources, He will
empower you with inner strength
through His Spirit (Eph 3:16).
May your roots go down deep into
the soil of God’s marvellous Love.
And may you have the power
to understand, as all God’s people
should, how wide, how long, how
high & how deep His Love really is.
May you experience the love of
Christ, though it is so great you
will never fully understand it.
(Eph 3:17-19). Now to Him who
is Able to do immeasurably
more than all we ask or imagine,
according to His Power that is
at work within us (v20). Amen.

Preview on Pastoral Letters (Jul 21)

We have been Chronologically
covering the Bible. In the Gospels,
Jesus is being presented as
the obedient Servant in Mark,
the Savior of the world in Luke,
Israel’s Messianic King in Matthew
and the Son of God in John gospel.
We have also covered Acts which
chronicles Growth of the Church.
Then Paul urges the Galatians to
live by Faith alone, Thessalonians
to Serve ahead of Second Coming,
to Corinthians to Live Rightly,
to Romans Justification by Faith,
Ephesians living as Body of Christ
to Colossians Doctrinal Purity; and
to Philippians the Call to Unity.

Next, we go to the pastoral letters:
Timothy, a young disciple Paul
discovered on his 2nd missionary
journey (Act 16:1) enjoyed a unique
relationship with the apostle.
Referred to as his “own son in
the faith”, Timothy ministered
side by side with Paul as a
missionary, and later received
the challenging assignment of
pastoring the church at Ephesus.
Paul’s first letter to him resembles
a manual for building church
leadership. More generally, it is
a rich mine of principles for anyone
who wishes to have a spiritual
impact in the lives of others.

2 Timothy: Paul’s life is drawing
to a lonely close in a Roman prison
as he writes to encourage Timothy
who now faces new challenges
as pastor of the church in Ephesus.
Paul advises Timothy to remain
solidly grounded in Christian
service and to endure suffering.
He lay down principles for those
pursuing ministry of discipleship.
Underlying each theme is the
importance of God’s Word
as the foundation for living.

Philemon: On the run after
committing a wrong against
his master, Onesimus the slave
sought refuge among the masses
in the city of Rome. There he
crosses Paul’s path and converts
to faith in Jesus Christ. Though
he shows his gratitude by serving
Paul, he still must reconcile with
his master Philemon. Paul writes
this letter to Philemon asking
him to forgive Onesimus and to
accept him as a brother in Christ.

Titus lived in Crete, the largest
island in the Mediterranean, and
worked among a people who
collectively had one of the worst
reputations in the world. Paul had
left Titus to oversee the growth of
the church there & now writes to
encourage him in that difficult task.
To promote sound teaching and
offset false doctrines, Titus is told
to appoint & train spiritual leaders
as elders. Paul’s letter is a summary
of Christian doctrine emphasising
holy living and encourages all
to live worthy of the gospel.

We’ll cover Paul’s letters to Timothy
over two weekends & his letters to
Philemon & Titus in one weekend.
Lookout for them to understand
the need to persevere in service; the importance of reconciliation
and to live worthy of the gospel.
