Preview on Lamentations (Feb 10)

We have been covering the Bible
by time sequence, phase by phase
OT1: Five Books of Laws incl Job.
OT2: History Up to King David
from Joshua to 1 Chron + Psalms
as well as Reign of King Solomon
in 2nd Chron & Wisdom Poetry.

In OT Phase 3, we see decline of the two nations & Israel dispersed.
OT3A: 1 Kings, Obadiah & Joel
OT3B: 2K1-17: Israel Dispersion
as well as Jonah, Amos, Hosea,
Micah and Isaiah & Jeremiah.

Continuing, God’s warning had
come thro Prophet Jeremiah, but
the people of Judah refused to
listen. In 586BC as the Babylonian
army attacked, judgment was
poured out on the city and the
people were carried into exile.
Jerusalem lay ruined and empty.

For days Jeremiah lamented over
the city and its future. As he cries
out in the darkness of destruction,
Jeremiah is given a spark of hope.
God promises forgiveness & grace.
The period of judgment is limited
and in His mercy God will Restore
the city and Return the captives.

We’ll cover book of Lamentations
in one session. Lookout for it!

God Offers His Faithfulness

Backgrounder on Psalms 84-89:
These psalms are petitions to God:
satisfy us again (P84), revive us
again (P85), hear us again (P86);
gather us again (P87); encourage
us again (P88) and Make Us Sing
Again (P89). And each psalm ends
with a benediction of confidence
that God will do that in response
to the prayers of His people.

Lord, we Praise Your Faithfulness:
Your Unfailing Love will last forever.
Your Faithfulness is as enduring
as the heavens… All heaven will
praise your great wonders Lord;
myriads of angels will praise you
for Your Faithfulness. For who
in all the heaven can compare
with the Lord? (Psa 89:2, 5-6).
Happy are those who hear the Call
to Worship. They Rejoice all day
in Yr wonderful reputation (v15-16)

set their minds on a Pilgrimage…
When they walk thro the Valley of

does he withhold from those who
do what is right (Ps 84:5-11).Amen

God Will Provide Our Needs

Backgrounder on Psalms 78-83:
The psalms of Asaph conclude
with six testimonies to the
greatness and faithfulness of
the God of Israel. He has kept
His promises in the past (P78),
a comforting reminder in the face
of an uncertain future (P79-80).
God is there (P81) and is not
silent (P82-83) when it comes
to overthrowing idols & enemies.

Lord, You will Provide Our Needs:
The Lord heard this and was furious… because they did not believe in God and did not trust
in his salvation. Yet He opened the doors of heaven and rained down manna. God gave them all they could eat (Psalm 78:21-25).

God Is Able to Do Anything

Backgrounder on Psalms 73-77:
In these five psalms by Asaph,
those who ignore God will find
their path slippery and their
prosperity short-lived (P73 & P75).
By contrast, those who order their
lives according to God’s Word will
discover hope in the midst of havoc
(P74) and resources to face every
situation victoriously (P76-77).

Lord, U are Able to Do Anything:
I will remember the works of
the Lord; surely I will remember
Your wonders of old. I will also
meditate on all Your work and
talk of Your deeds… You are
the God who performs miracles;
You display Your Power among
the peoples (Ps 77:11-14) Amen.

God Is Your Strength & Shelter

Backgrounder on Psalms 73-77:
In these five psalms by Asaph,
those who ignore God will find
their path slippery and their
prosperity short-lived (P73 & P75).
By contrast, those who order their
lives according to God’s Word
will discover hope in the midst
of havoc (P74) and resources
to face every situation in life
victoriously (P76-77).

Lord, U are Our Strength & Shelter:
Whom have I in heaven but You?
I Desire You more than anything
on earth. My health may fail and
my spirit may grow weak, but God
remains the Strength of my heart;
he is mine forever (Psa 73:5-6).
But as for me, how good it is to
Be Near God! I have made the
Sovereign Lord my Shelter, and
I will tell everyone about the
wonderful things you do (v28).

Praying thro Jeremiah (Feb 4)

Judgment on Gentile Nations
(Prayer Walk thro Jer 46-52)

Backgrounder: Jeremiah closes
his book with a mighty sweep of
prophetic judgment, moving from
west to east, namely Egypt,
Philistia, Moab, Ammon & Edom
(J46-49). Babylon, the greatest
enemy of Judah will suffer the
same fate as the rest of Judah’s
ungodly neighbours (J50-51).
But Jeremiah concludes his
prophecy with a note of hope (J52)
Though Jerusalem has fallen
as predicted, her king Jehoiachim
is shown unexpected kindness in
Babylon. In the restoration of this
covenant breaking king, Jeremiah
pictures the future restoration
of covenant-breaking Judah
by her covenant keeping God.

Dear Lord, in Your Judgment on the
Gentle nations in Jeremiah 46-52,
we see your redemptive purpose.
Help us Yield our life to Yr Shaping;
Help us to Humble before You; &
Help us return & Seek You. Amen.

Praying thro Jeremiah (Feb 3)

Downfall of Jerusalem
(Prayer Walk thro Jer 34-45)

Backgrounder: These chapters
deal primarily with Jeremiah’s
personal trials as he stands true
to his prophetic mission. Pleading
with his countrymen to go into
exile voluntarily, Jeremiah watches
as they resist Jerusalem’s collapse
and captivity to the end. Though
God’s people have marched into
exile, God’s Word continues to
come through the mouth of His
prophet on Judah’s discipline at
the hands of Jehovah for knowing
what to do but refusing to do it.

Dear Lord, we clearly see Your holiness thro ministry of Jeremiah.
Help us Learn to Listen to You
and Help us Heed Your Direction.
Thank U for Getting Us Thro for
You are also a merciful God. Amen

God Helps Those In Need

Backgrounder on Psalms 67-72:
David and Solomon show you
how praiseworthy is the great
God of Israel. God is worthy of
praise for His judgements (P67),
His compassion & provision (P68)
His attentiveness to the cry of
His children (P69-70), His strength
on behalf of the weak (P71) & His
sovereignty over the nations (P72)

Lord, You Respond to Our Cries:
God will Deliver the needy who Cry
out, the afflicted who have no one
to help. He will spare the poor
and needy, and will save the souls
of the needy (Psa 72:12-13).
(And) I am poor and needy;
(so) Make Haste to me O God!
You are my help and Deliverer;
O God Do Not Delay (Ps 70:5).

God Cares for the Defenceless

Backgrounder on Psalms 67-72:
David and Solomon show you
how praiseworthy is the great
God of Israel. God is worthy of
praise for His judgements (P67),
His compassion & provision (P68)
His attentiveness to the cry of
His children, His strength on behalf
of the weak (P71) & His sovereignty
over the nations (P72).

Lord, You Care & Bear Burdens:
Let the godly rejoice. Let them
be glad in God’s presence.
Let them be filled with joy…
A father to the fatherless,
a defender of widows, is God
in his holy dwelling. God sets
the lonely in families, he leads
out the prisoners with singing…
Praise be to the Lord, to God
our Savior, who daily Bears
our burdens (Ps 68:3-6 & v19).
