Prayer Thot for the Day (Feb 26)

God Who Answers Prayers

Backgrounder on Psalms 120-127:
These psalms deal with topics
dear to the heart of travellers
far from home: Peace (120, 122);
protection (121, 125, 127); and
provision (123, 124, 126). As you
read these “hymns of the highway”
imagine yourself on a long journey,
with your destination now in view.

Lord, You Answer Prayers:
I took my troubles to the Lord;
I cried out to Him, and He
answered my prayer. Rescue
me O Lord from liars and from
all deceitful people (Ps 120:1-2).
I am tired of living among people
who hate peace. I search for
peace; but when I speak of
peace, they want war! (v6-7).

Lord, grant me the experience
of the psalmist that as he cried
out to You God for deliverance
and poured out his pain, he felt
confident U answering his prayer.
So, grant me Lord grace to cry
out to you when I face troubles.
Thank you that when we cry out
to You, You hear and answer
our prayers in your timing
and for your purpose. Amen.

Lord, I thank You that there is
no trouble beyond your help.
When I bring my problems to U,
when I cry out to you, you are
always there, listening, answering
and working in my life. Though
I may be harassed or distressed,
you are my sure refuge. You are
my strong tower, and I run to You
and am safe. Thank you for hearing
and answering my prayers. Amen.

Lord, we learn from this psalm
the value of being a peacemaker.
Many people would rather fight
for what they believe in than
back down and compromise
for the sake of peace. For those
people, the glory of battle lies
in winning. In contrast, the glory
of peacemaking lies in the fact
that it can produce two winners.
And Peacemaking is God’s way.
Lord help me strive to be a
peacemaker by carefully trying
to resolve conflicts without force.
Help me when involved in a
disagreement to look for things
on which both parties can agree.
Help me work toward a solution
that is mutually beneficial. Amen.
