Praying Thro Romans (Jun 16)

Heeding Sinfulness of Mankind
(Prayer Walk thro Rom 1-3)

Backgrounder: Paul begins his legal
brief by describing the helpless
condition of humanity. A rebellious
nature has led to rejection of the
Creator & worship of the creation.
God in turn has permitted the
sinful nature of human beings
to express the fullness of its
corruption and the whole human
race stands helpless before God.
Truly, all have sinned and come
short of the glory of God (R3:23).

Lord, we have a tendency to sin,
causing us to want to live our
own way rather than God’s way.
Whilst we cannot remove sin
by our own strength, thanks be
to God that Christ can save us!
Lord, help us Stand for the Gospel;
help us Praise & Thank U more &
help us Share Good News. Amen.

Preview on Romans

We have been Chronologically
covering the Bible phase by phase.
We start the Gospels, with Jesus
presented as the Servant in Mark,
the Perfect Son of Man in Luke,
Israel’s Messianic King in Matthew
and the Son of God in John gospel.
We have also covered Acts which
chronicles Growth of the Church.
Then Paul urges the Galatians to
live by Faith alone, Thessalonians
to Serve ahead of second coming,
and the Corinthians to live Rightly.

Next, we continue into Romans.
Although Paul had not founded
the church in Rome, he had heard
of their exemplary faith & service
and intended to visit them. Thus
the letter to the Romans served to
introduce both Paul & his message.
Writing from Corinth on his third
missionary journey, Paul sets forth
the Doctrines of the Christian
faith, life in the Spirit, unity in
the body and God’s redemptive
program for both Jew and Gentile.

Prayer Thot of the Day (Jun 15)

Christ Intercedes For You

Backgrounder on John 13-17:
The Upper Room Discourse
contains Jesus’ final words of
instruction and encouragement
to His disciples before his death.
Only John records these intimate
moments between Jesus and
His men as He models true
humility (Jn 13), describes the
coming Holy Spirit (Jn 14-16)
and Intercedes for the Unity and
Protection of His disciples (Jn 17)

Lord, thank you for Covering Us:
I do not pray that You should take
them out of the world, but that You
should keep them from the evil one.
They are not of the world, just as
I am not of the world. Sanctify them
by Your truth… As You sent Me
into the world. I also have sent
them into the world (Jn 17:15-18).
My prayer is not for them alone.
I pray also for those who will
believe in me thro their message,
that all of them may be one…
that they also may be one in Us,
that the world may believe that
You sent me (Jn 17:20-21). Amen.

Christ Wants You to Be Fruitful

Backgrounder on John 13-17:
The Upper Room Discourse
contains Jesus’ final words of
instruction and encouragement
to His disciples before his death.
Only John records these intimate
moments between Jesus and
His men as He models true
humility (Jn 13), describes the
coming Holy Spirit (Jn 14-16)
and intercedes for the unity and
protection of His disciples (Jn 17)

Lord, we want to Be Fruitful:
I am the vine; u are the branches.
If You Remain in me and I in you,
you will Bear Much Fruit; apart
from me you can do nothing…
If you remain in me and My Words
Remain in u, ask whatever you wish
and it Will Be Given you (Jn 15:5-7)
This is my commandment that you
love one another as I have loved u…
You are my friends If You Do what
I command. I no longer call you
servants… Instead I have called
you friends, for everything that
I learned from my Father I have
made known to you (v12-15) Amen Continue reading “Prayer Thot for the Day (Jun 14)”

Christ Gives You Peace

Backgrounder on John 13-17:
The Upper Room Discourse
contains Jesus’ final words of
instruction and encouragement
to His disciples before his death.
Only John records these intimate
moments between Jesus and
His men as He models true
humility (Jn 13), describes the
coming Holy Spirit (Jn 14-16)
and intercedes for the unity and
protection of His disciples (Jn 17)

Lord, we’ll Hold On to Your Peace:
These things I have spoken to
you while being present with you.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send will
teach you all things; and bring to
your remembrance all things that
I said to you. Peace I leave with
you, and the peace I give isn’t
like the peace the world gives.
So don’t be troubled or afraid
(John 14:25-27). Amen. Continue reading “Prayer Thot for the Day (Jun 13)”

Christ Will Honour His Followers

Backgrounder on John 9-12:
Christ’s claims draw the attention
of more than the hungry and sick.
The religious leaders concerned
about maintaining the status quo,
respond with angry resistance.
But how do You refute a Man
who preaches that He is the
Light of the World, then proves
it by giving sight to the blind? …
who claims He is the resurrection
& the life, then validates that claim
by raising a man from the dead.

Lord, we will Follow Your Leading:
Jesus said: He who loves his
life will lose it and he who hates
his life in this world will keep it.
All those who want to be my
disciples must come & follow me.
And if they follow me, the Father
Will Honour them. Now my soul
is deeply troubled. Should I pray:
Father, save me from what lies
ahead? But that is the very reason
why I came! Father, Bring Glory
to your name (Jn 12:25-28).

Christ Will Take Care of You

Backgrounder on John 9-12:
Christ’s claims draw the attention
of more than the hungry and sick.
The religious leaders concerned
about maintaining the status quo,
respond with angry resistance.
But how do You refute a Man
who preaches that He is the
Light of the World, then proves
it by giving sight to the blind?….
who claims He is the resurrection
and the life (11:25), then validates
that claim by raising a man from
the dead. The choice is: Either
believe Him or seek to silence Him.

Lord, we will live a Full Life:
I have come that they may
have life, and have it to the full.
I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd gives His life
for the sheep (John 10:10-11).
My sheep hear My voice and
I know them, and they follow Me.
And I give them eternal life, and
they shall never perish; neither
shall anyone snatch them
out of My hand (v27-28). Amen

Praying thro 2 Corinthians (Jun 10)

God Helps U Prevail In Difficulties
(Prayer Walk thro 2 Cor 6-13)

Backgrounder: Paul defended
his ministry by showing how
individuals can be reconciled to a
loving God. And he pleads with the
Corinthian church to be reconciled
to him as their spiritual father.
In his final words, Paul draws upon
his authority as an apostle to exhort
the rebellious to repent so that
his approaching visit can be a time
of rejoicing rather than rebuke.

Lord, thanks for Paul’s letter
which teaches us how to be more
effective in Christian ministry.
Help us to be blameless, sincere,
confident, caring, and willing
to suffer for the sake of Christ.
Lord, as we may face challenges
in life including spiritual battles,
physical ailment & difficult people;
help us use Yr mighty weapons;
help us be Enabled by You; and
help us place our Faith in U. Amen

Praying thro 2 Corinthians (Jun 9)

Be Ambassadors of Christ
(Prayer Walk thro 2 Cor 1-5)

Backgrounder: Paul opens his
second epistle to the Corinthians
the same way he began his first
one by establishing his authority
and documenting the source of
his revelation. He then praises
God for what He has done for
Timothy and him. In contrast to
the old covenant which condemned
the glorious new covenant sealed
in Jesus’ own blood, makes
God’s ministers bold & effective
in calling people to repentance.

Lord, thanks for Paul’s 2nd letter
to Corinthians which explains the
nature of Christian ministry and
teaches how we should handle it.
Help us to be blameless, sincere,
confident, caring, open & willing
to suffer for the sake of Christ.
Help us to Comfort Others;
Help us to Focus on Eternal &
Help us be Yr Ambassadors. Amen

Christ’s Light Set You Free

Backgrounder on John 6-8:
Early in His ministry, Christ issues
a challenge: Search the scriptures
for they testify of me (Jn 5:39).
Now His public declarations and
miraculous demonstrations serve
to confirm what the OT said of Him.
Using Jewish feast days as public
forum, Jesus declares Himself
to be the Bread of Life (6:35),
the Forgiver of Sins (8:11) and
the Light of the World (8:12).

Lord, Your Light Sets Us Free:
Jesus said: I am the Light of
the world. If you Follow me,
you won’t have to walk in darkness
because you will have the Light
that leads to life (Jn 8:12).
To the Jews who had believed
Him, Jesus said: If you Hold
to my teaching, you are really
my disciples. Then you will
know the truth, and the truth will
set you Free (Jn 8:31-32). Amen.
