Praying thro Colossians (Jul 7)

We Are Complete In Christ
(Prayer Walk thro Col 1-2)

Backgrounder: All is not well in
Colosse. A dangerous heresy –
that Jesus Christ is neither central
nor supreme is undermining
the church. Paul’s response to
these false teachings is two-fold.
First, he upholds Christ as the
preeminent Head of the church.
Next, he speaks out against the
rituals and man-made regulations
which typify worship at Colosse.

Dear Jesus Christ, we praise You
for Being Supreme for You are
God in the flesh, Lord of all creation
as well as head of the Church.
Help us seek to Know Your Will
& make Your interest our priority.
And Thank You that as believers,
we’ve everything we need in Christ
and are Complete In You. Amen.

Preview on Colossians

We have been Chronologically
covering the Bible phase by phase.
We start the Gospels, with Jesus
presented as the Servant in Mark,
the Savior of the world in Luke,
Israel’s Messianic King in Matthew
and the Son of God in John gospel.
We have also covered Acts which
chronicles Growth of the Church.
Then Paul urges the Galatians to
live by Faith alone, Thessalonians
to Serve ahead of Second Coming,
to Corinthians to Live Rightly,
to Romans Justification by Faith &
Ephesians living as Body of Christ.

Next, we continue into Colossians.
Paul is imprisoned in Rome when
he receives word that heretical
doctrines are threatening the
church at Colosse. To refute the
spiritually lethal combination of
eastern mysticism and Jewish
legalism, Paul reestablishes the
truth of the gospel & demonstrates
the supremacy of Christ. As Lord
of all, Jesus Christ is the giver
of salvation and sufficient for
every need. Since Christ is all in all,
Paul encourages the Colossians
to pursue a godly lifestyle befitting
those who are risen with Christ.

Your Labour is Not In Vain

Backgrounder on 1 Cor 15-16:
False teachers had been confusing
the Corinthians by denying the
doctrine of physical resurrection.
Paul defends the Resurrection
as a historical fact confirmed
by more than 500 eyewitnesses.
The Resurrection provides hope
for the believer’s body and soul
as well as motivates believers to
abound in the work of the Lord.

Lord, thanks for Confident Hope:
For when the trumpet is blown,
those who have died will be raised
to live forever. And we who are
Living will also be transformed…
O death, where is your victory ?
O death, where is your sting ?
For sin is the sting that results in
death & the law gives sin its power.
But thank God! He gives us victory
over sin and death through our Lord
Jesus Christ (1Cor 15:52, 55-57).
Therefore… be steadfast,
immovable, always abounding
in the work of the Lord, knowing
that your labour is Not In Vain
in the Lord (1Cor 15:58). Amen.

God Promises Spiritual Gifts

Backgrounder on 1 Cor 11-14:
Paul in these chapters addresses
public issues: importance of the
Lord’s Supper, the use & abuse of
spiritual gifts and orderly worship.
Spiritual gifts must be exercised
in love for the building up of
the body of Christ. Only then
is the church of God properly
worshipping the God of the church.

Lord, we Desire Spiritual Gifts:
There are different kinds of Gifts
but the same Spirit distributes them
for the common good (1Cor 12:4-9)
Pursue love & desire spiritual gifts,
especially that you may prophesy.
(For) one who prophesies is
helping others grow in the Lord,
encouraging & comforting them.
Ask God for those (gifts) that
will be of Real Help to the whole
church (1 Cor 14:1-3 & 12) Amen.

God Protects You In Temptation

Backgrounder on 1 Cor 7-16:
The Corinthian Church had sent
Apostle Paul a list of questions
on marriage, morality, liberty,
worship & resurrection. And Paul
answered them in a way meant
to correct abuses in the church
and to show how important it is
that they live what they believe.

Lord, we will Resist Temptation:
We should not lust after evil things.
Therefore let him who thinks
he stands take heed lest he fall.
No temptation has overtaken
you except what is common to
mankind. And God is faithful; He
will Not let u be Tempted Beyond
what you can bear. But when
you are tempted, He will also
Provide A Way Out so that u can
endure it (1 Cor 10:6,12-13) Amen.

Spirit of God Gives You Insights

Backgrounder on 1 Cor 1-6:
Churches aren’t perfect because
churches are full of imperfect pple.
Paul writes to the believers at
Corinth to correct errors in their
public & private behaviour which
are detracting from their witness.
These include factions, immorality
and lawsuits between believers.
And Paul set forth godly guidelines
for conduct consistent with the
grace of God given by Christ.

Lord, we will Seek Your Insight:
What we have received is not the
spirit of the world, but the Spirit
who is from God, so that we may
understand what God has freely
given us. This is what we speak…
in words taught by the Spirit,
explaining Spiritual Realities with
Spirit-taught words (1Cor 2:12-13)
Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?
But we understand these things,
for we hv the Mind of Christ (v16)

Appealing God thro NT Promises
(Significance Reinstated)

Dear Friends,
We have completed eight months
of devotion on God’s Promises,
following three earlier series on
Adoring God thro Thanksgiving,
Knowing God’s thro His Names
and Praising God thro Hymns.
Before continuing, let’s pause
to consider the significance of
Appealing God on NT Promises.

There are so much to pray about:
our dreams, hopes and plans.
But often we are held up by our
own doubts: Does God really
care about this request of ours?
How assuring to pray back to God
the promises found in HIS Word.
Then we no longer wonder if this
is something God cares about, for
He brought it up in the first place.

Praying thro Ephesians (Jul 1)

Building the Body of Christ
(Prayer Walk thro Eph 4-6)

Backgrounder: Walk Worthy of
your calling..You are rich in Christ,
so live that way! But it takes
a lifetime to live out the reality.
The Christian’s conduct should
be consistent with his calling.
He is indescribably rich in Christ,
endowed with spiritual blessings.
But he must learn to walk in the
light of that wealth. A spiritual
war rages, and only those who
learn to appropriate and use the
full armour of God will be able to
stand against Satan’s wily attacks.

Lord, thank you for giving to us
every spiritual blessings. Grant us
grace to walk in the light of that
wealth & be worthy of our calling.
Help us Speak Words of Grace;
help us Live Wisely on earth and
help us Put On Your Armour. Amen.

Living Our Christian Calling
(Prayer Walk thro Eph 1-3)

Backgrounder: The Ephesians
had unlimited spiritual wealth at
their disposal, yet they lived as
spiritual paupers. So Paul wrote
to encourage them to claim
their heavenly resources. Only
then could they draw on them for
their earthly walk. And In Christ,
Christians are endowed with every
spiritual blessing as well as adoptn,
redemption, inheritance and power.

Lord, thanks for giving wonderful
spiritual blessings to Your body.
Praise U for being not just Creator
and Sustainer but also head of
the church. Because You Christ is
central to everything, help us place
our priorities under Your control.
Lord, Enlighten Your Plans to us &
Help us Be Your Workmen, even
as we Adore Your Great Love. Amen

who had unlimited spiritual wealth
at their disposal, yet they lived as

to encourage them to claim their

for their earthly walk. In the 1st half
of his letter, the apostle outlines
the heavenly wealth – adoption,
redemption, inheritance & power.
In 2nd half, he shows the practical
applications of those doctrines.
Paul made it clear – believers are
not to have merely an earthly view
for God has given to us His riches.
