Prayer Thots on James 3 (Sep 19)

God Wants to Grant You Wisdom

Just as a human body that fails
to breathe is labelled a dead body,
so too a faith that fails to breathe
us labelled a dead faith. And the
breath of faith in the Christian life
is good works: demonstrating
concern for the poor, controlling
the tongue & building up others.
True faith & good works cannot be
divorced, for your life is the lab in
which your faith is shown to be real.

Lord, we’ll Seek Your Wisdom:
The wisdom that comes from
heaven is first of all pure. It is
also peace loving, gentle at all
times and willing to yield to others.
It is full of mercy and good deeds…
And those who are peacemakers
will plant seeds of peace and reap
a harvest of goodness (Jas 3:17-18)

Prayer Thots on James 2 (Sep 18)

God Wants to Befriend You

Just as a human body that fails
to breathe is labelled a dead body,
so too a faith that fails to breathe
us labelled a dead faith. And the
breath of faith in the Christian life
is good works: demonstrating
concern for the poor, controlling
the tongue, exhibiting a spirit of
humility and building up others.

Lord, we will Live Out our Faith:
What good is it… if someone
claims to have faith but has no
deeds?.. Faith by itself, if it is not
accompanied by action, is dead.
But someone will say: You have
faith; I have deeds. Show me your
faith without deeds, and I’ll show u
my faith by my deeds (Jas 2:14-18)
It happened just as the Scriptures
say: Abraham believed God, and
God counted him as righteous
because of his faith. He was even
called the friend of God (v23) Amen

God Helps You in times of Trouble

Just as a human body that fails
to breathe is labelled a dead body,
so too a faith that fails to breathe
us labelled a dead faith. And the
breath of faith in the Christian life
is good works: demonstrating
concern for the poor, controlling
the tongue, exhibiting a spirit of
humility and building up others.

Lord, we Seek You for Help:
Consider it pure joy whenever
You face trials of many kinds,
because u know that the testing of
Your faith produces Perseverance.
Let perseverance finish its work
do that you may be mature and
complete, not lacking anything.
If any of you Lacks Wisdom,
he should Ask God, who gives
generously to all without finding
fault, and it will be given to him.
But when he asks, he must believe
and not doubt (Jas 1:2-6). Amen.

Praying thro Jude (Sep 16)

God Is Able & Will Keep You

Alarmed by the presence of
false trenching, Jude (who was
the brother of James) exhorts
believers to stand firm for the truth.
He ends his short epistle with
a series of urgent commands:
Remember Christ’s words,
remain in God’s love and seek
to remove erring brothers from
the fiery danger of their ways.

Father, U are Able & Will Keep Us:
All glory to God, who Is Able
to Keep You from stumbling,
and who will bring you into His
glorious presence innocent of sin
and with great joy. All glory to Him,
who alone is God our Saviour,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Yes, glory, majesty, power
and authority belong to Him,
in the beginning, now, and
forevermore (Jude 24-25). Amen.

Prayer Thots on Heb 13 (Sep 14)

God Will Never Forsake You

Hebrews closes with an appeal for
a persevering Faith that relies on
the promises of God regardless
of the circumstances. Writing to
an audience whose actions were
being shaped by pressure from
the world rather than promises
from God, the author urges the
kind of Faith-inspired walk that
characterised so many OT saints.
Being so convinced of God’s
Faithfulness, they ordered their
lives according to His Word. Follow
their commendable example and
walk by Faith; and not by sight!

Lord, we will Not have to Fear:
Be content with such things as
you have. For He Himself has said:
I will Never Leave You nor forsake u.
So we may boldly say: The Lord is
my helper; I’ll not fear (Heb 13:5-6)
(For) Jesus Christ is The Same
yesterday, today and forever (v8).
May the God of peace…Equip You
with all you need for doing His will.
May He produce in you, through
the power of Jesus Christ, all
that is pleasing to Him. Jesus is
the great Shepherd of the sheep
by an everlasting covenant, signed
with His blood (v20-21). Amen.

Christ the Finisher of Your Faith

Lord, help us Endure the Race:
Since we are surrounded by
so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight and
the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus, the author
and finisher of our faith, who for
the joy that was set before Him
endured the cross (Heb 12:1-2).

God Honours Your Faith

Lord, Increase Our Faith In You:
Faith is the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things
not seen… But without faith it is
impossible to please Him, for he
who comes to God must Believe
that He is, and that He is a
Rewarder of those who diligently
Seek Him (Heb 11:1, 6). Amen.

God Helps Change Your Mindset

The writer of Hebrews highlighted
the superiority of Christ by pointing
out the heart of the human problem
is the problem of the human heart.
The old covenant was inadequate
because it was unable to deal
permanently with sin. But God’s
new covenant written in Christ’s
own blood which He shed on
the cross – makes full provision
for the forgiveness of sins.

Lord, You Mold Our Mindset:
This is the covenant I will make
with them… I Will Put my laws in
their hearts, and I Will Write them
on their minds. Then…their sins…
I’ll remember no more (H10:16-17)
Let us Go Into the Presence
of God with sincere hearts
fully trusting Him (Heb 10:22).
Let us hold fast the confession
of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful.
And let us consider one another
in order to Stir Up Love and good
works, not forsaking assembling
ourselves together but exhorting
one another (Heb 10:23-25). Amen.

God Gives You Access & Freedom

The writer of Hebrews highlighted
the superiority of Christ by pointing
out the heart of the human problem
is the problem of the human heart.
The old covenant was inadequate
because it was unable to deal
permanently with sin. But God’s
new covenant written in Christ’s
own blood which He shed on
the cross – makes full provision
for the forgiveness of sins.

Lord, You Enable Ready Excess:
Only the high priest goes into
the Most Holy Place, and only
once a year & always with blood,
which he offers to God to cover
his own sins & the sins the people
have committed in ignorance. By
these regulations the Holy Spirit
revealed that the Most Holy Place
was not open to the people(H9:7-8)
Under the old system, the blood of
goats and bulls cleanses people’s
bodies from ceremonial impurity.
Think how much more the blood
of Christ will purify our consciences
from sinful deeds so that we can
worship the living God. For Christ
offered himself to God as a Perfect
Sacrifice for our sins (v13-14) Amen
