Trusting God In Psalm 63 (May 9)

God Satisfies Longing Soul

Backgrounder on Psalm 60-66:
In this segment, we read five
psalms of lament (Psalm 60, 61,
63-65; watch for the cry: O God)
in which the psalmist stands
upon the promises of God
in the face of discouragement,
deceit and defeat. Through it all
the psalmist finds that God is
praiseworthy refuge(Ps 62,66).

Lord, we will Seek after You:
O God, You are my God,
earnestly I Seek You;
my soul Thirsts for You,
my whole being Longs for You,
in a dry and parched land where
there is no water (Psalm 63:1-2).
Your Unfailing Love is
better to me than life itself;
how I praise you! I will honor
You as long as I live, lifting up
my hands to You in prayer (v3-4).
My soul shall be satisfied…
and my mouth shall praise You…
When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on U in the night watches.
Because You have been my help,
Therefore in the shadow of
Your Wings I will rejoice (v5-7).

Lord, Your word promises that You
will Satisfy those who Seek You.
Help me to want Your presence
in my life more than anything else.
Help me long more of You the way
I will long for water in the desert.
Help me come to You to quench
Spiritual Thirst as only You can do.
Flow Your rivers of living water
into me to revive my soul and then
flow thru me to a dry world. Amen.

Lord, grateful for the promise that
those who seek You will find You.
Draw me by Your Spirit to truly
experience Your loving-kindness.
And I will proclaim together with
the psalmist that Your Unfailing
Love and kindness is better
than life itself. As long as I live,
I will honor You and praise You,
lifting up my hands to You. Amen.

Lord, as we grow older, we realise
that life’s greatest treasures
are Intimacy with You God.
Help us Lord to make Time
with You a priority so that we
can experience joy for God
Satisfies those who Long for Him.
For You Lord have been my help
and I will rejoice in You. Amen.

God Is Our Rock & Refuge

Backgrounder on Psalm 60-66:
In this segment, we read five
psalms of lament (Psalm 60, 61,
63-65; watch for the cry: O God)
in which the psalmist stands
upon the promises of God
in the face of discouragement,
deceit and defeat. Through it all
the psalmist finds that God is
praiseworthy refuge(Ps 62,66).

Lord, we Come to You Our Refuge:
I Wait Quietly before God,
for my victory comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my
salvation, my fortress where
I will never be shaken (Ps 62:1-2).
My soul wait silently for God,
for my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my
salvation; He is my defense;
I shall not be moved. Trust
in Him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is our refuge (v5-8).
Power O God belongs to You;
Mercy O Lord is Yours (v11-12).

Lord, I lift my eyes up to You, the
Almighty God: my rock, my refuge,
my fortress and my salvation.
Quieten my heart Lord to Wait
upon You for my hope is in You.
Let my confidence not be shaken
by what my circumstances may say,
my mind may think or heart may feel.
Trust that my confidence rests on
the One who is my rock and that
You will never be shaken. Amen.

Lord, You are our refuge and
You are absolutely trustworthy.
Thank You for shielding us as
we face life’s troubles and for
going through them with us.
And we can rise and stand
upright despite what life may
send us for You are our refuge.
We praise You in Jesus’ name.

Lord Almighty, I lift my eyes to You,
for my confidence rests on the
One who is the Solid Rock, for
You are both powerful & merciful.
Lord, Rock of Ages cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee.
When I rise to worlds unknown
and behold Thee on Thy throne.
Rock of Ages cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee. Amen

Thought for the Week: Psalm 46

God Is Our Refuge and Strength

The 2nd book of Psalms (Ps 42-72),
is similar to the book of Exodus,
as many of these psalms describe
Israel as ruined & then recovered.
These psalms can help us pray for
rescue, confess our sin & trust God.
Psalm 42-49 are attributed to sons
of Korah, who served as singers
and musicians in the temple.

Lord, Thanks for Being Our Refuge:
God is our Refuge and Strength,
an Ever-Present Help in times
of trouble. So, we will not fear,
when earthquakes come and
Mountains crumble into the sea;
though waters roar & be troubled,
though the mountains shake
with its swelling (Psalm 46:1-3).
The Lord of hosts is with us;
God… is our refuge… Come behold
the works of the Lord (v7-8).
BE STILL and know that I am God…
I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us (and)
God is Our Refuge (Ps 46:10-11).

Lord, Your Word says You are ever
Ready To Help in times of trouble.
Forgive me for the times when
I act as though You don’t exist.
Teach me to pull back fr troubles
and instead focus on You. I don’t
have to fear, no matter what I face.
For every moment that I breathe,
You are My Strength. And though
my life may be shaken to its core,
You are still My Refuge. Amen.

Father, when everything in my life
seems on the verge of crumbling &
falling apart, help me to experience
You Lord as My Firm Foundation.
For though You’re the Mountain
Mover, You also hold creation
steady in the palm of Your hand.
Guide me Lord as I entrust my
mountains over to You my solid
and ever faithful Father. Amen.

Lord, my heart may worry for though
You’re on Your throne, but I don’t
know what You are going to do.
Help me Lord to Be Still In You,
trust You and give me rest in You.
Let me know You are With me
in every circumstance, no matter
how difficult or even traumatic.
Let me Experience You as a Very
Present Help in trouble. Amen.

Reflection on Psalms Book 2

Trusting God thru His Promises

The purpose of Psalms is to provide poetry for the expression of praise, worship and confession to God.
Psalms 42-72 is similar to Exodus
which describe nation of Israel ruined & recovered. As God rescued nation of Israel, He also rescues us.
On Mon, we learn from Psalm 46 that God Is Our Refuge & Strength.
On Tuesday, we learn from Ps 51
that God Gives Joy to Clean Hearts.
On Wed, we learn from Ps 55 that
God Bears Burdens & Gives Rest.
On Thu, we learn from Psalm 56
that Almighty God Is On Your Side.
On Friday, we learn from Ps 57
that God Has A Plan For You.
On Sat, we learn from Psalm 59
that God Delivers those who Wait.
Let us humble ourselves and pray
and seek His face. Help us O God
be Christ’s disciples who trust You:
for You truly keep Your promises;
for You Lord God Almighty is our
refuge for You are on our side;
for You bear burdens, give joy,
have a plan for us and You deliver
those who wait upon You. Amen.

Trusting God In Psalm 59 (May 6)

God Delivers Those Who Wait

Psalms 55-59 capture the emotions
of King David during some of his
most difficult days. Notice David
frank petitions and confident trust
in God in the wake of being betrayed
(Ps 55), broken-hearted (Ps 56)
and pursued (Ps 57 and Ps 59).
Through it all David knows there
is a reward for the righteous and
God judges in the earth (Ps 58).

Lord, we will Wait Upon You:
Deliver me from my enemies,
O my God; defend me from
those who rise up against me.
Deliver…and save me (Ps 59:1-2)
You are my strength, I Wait
for You to rescue me for You,
O God are my place of safety.
In his unfailing love, my God
will come & help me (v9-10).
I will sing of Your strength…
I will sing of Your love; for
You are my fortress, my Refuge
in times of trouble. You are
my God whom I can rely(v16-17).

Lord, in Your loving kindness,
You have given reassuring
promises to deliver and save us.
Through Your mercy, grant us
peace of mind and heart so that
we will not be troubled or afraid.
Thank You for being my place
of safety in the day of distress.
May I rest in Your powerful arms
and sing of Your mercies. Amen.

Lord, You are my strength,
my place of safety, my help.
Instead of depending on my own
strength or concocting a human
solution, I will Call on Youl Lord
and Wait on You to rescue me; for
in Your unfailing love You’ll help me.
Give me Lord the grace to Keep
Trusting You to work in Your
Way and in Your Time. Amen.

Lord, You are my Refuge and You
are my place of safety in distress
for You are mighty and powerful!
Your love for me never fails; and
grateful for demonstrating Your
unfailing love to me day by day.
When situations are bleak and
hope may seems gone, give me
the faith to Cling to You and look
to You for deliverance. Amen.

God Has A Plan For You

Psalms 55-59 capture the
emotions of King David during
some of his most difficult days.
Notice David’s frank petitions and
confident trust in God in the wake
of being betrayed (P55), broken-
hearted (P56) & pursued (P57,59)
Through it all David knows there
is a reward for the righteous and
God judgeth in the earth (P58:11).

Lord, You Have A Plan for us:
My soul trusts in You; and in the
shadow of Your wings I will make
my refuge, until these calamities
have passed by. I Cry Out to
God Most High, who will Fulfil
His Purpose for me (Psa 57:1-2).
My Heart Is Confident In You,
O God; my heart is confident.
No wonder I can sing
Your praises (v7-8).
I will praise You, O Lord,
among the people; I will sing
to You among the nations.
For Your mercy reaches unto the
heavens… Your truth to the clouds.
Be exalted O God above
the heavens; Let Your glory
be above all the earth (v9-11).

Lord, help us learn from David
the psalmist to Focus On You
in the midst of his difficulties.
For it is when our heart has a
firm foundation in You that our
faith will have a resting place.
Help us to have our thoughts
rooted in You Lord that we will
experience peace, even joy, in the
midst of life’s difficulties. Amen.

Lord, in the midst of tough times,
it is hard to remember that You
are In Control. You sit enthroned
above the heavens and will
Fulfil Your Purpose in my life.
Instead of complaining & doubting,
I will wait patiently for Your
goodness and Trust confidently
in Your infinite power. Amen.

Lord, in my distress, I choose to place my Trust and hope in You.
Cause me not to hide my troubles
from You, but to Cry Out to You.
For You are able to turn any trouble
I face into a fulfilment of my destiny.
For thy steadfast love is great,
and great is Your faithfulness.
Be exalted O God, let thy glory
be over all the earth. Amen.

Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
In God (I will praise                His Word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear. What can flesh
do to me? (Psalm 56:3-4).
When I cry out to You,
                                         Then my enemies will turn back;
This I know because God is For me.
In God (I will praise His Word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not be afraid. What can
man do to me? (Psalm 56:9-11).
I will render praises to You,
For You have delivered my soul…
Have You not kept my feet fr falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of the living (v12-13).

Lord, You have said that when
I’m afraid, I can put my Trust in You.
Thank You Lord for Your word that
promises Your presence with me
as well as protection & provision.
You are my Hiding Place, so
please hold my hand in difficult
circumstances. Help me to Trust
In You & to walk close to You. Amen

Lord, in the midst of tough times,

Let the weak say I am strong
With the strength of the Lord
I Will Trust In You. Amen.

God Bears Burdens & Gives Rest

Psalms 55-59 capture the
emotions of King David during
some of his most difficult days.
Notice David’s frank petitions and
confident trust in God in the wake
of being betrayed (P55), broken-
hearted (P56) & pursued (P57,59)
Through it all David knows there
is reward for the righteous and
God judges in the earth (P58:11).

Lord, we give U Burdens for Rest:
Please listen and answer me,
for I’m overwhelmed by
my troubles… O how I wish I had wings like a dove; then I would
fly away & Rest (Psalm 55:2,6).
As for me, I will call upon God,
and the Lord shall save me.
Evening, morning and noon
I Cry Out in distress, and
He shall Hear my voice (v16-17).
Cast Your Burdens to the Lord,
and He will Take Care of you;
(for) He shall never permit the righteous to be moved (v22).

Lord, like David, I need to bring
my distress to You. Forgive me
for the times I complain to others
but do not bring my troubles
to You, the one who can actually
do something about them. Lord,
do hear my desperate cries and
come to my aid from the burdens
of the cares of this world. Amen.

Lord, I do want my problems
solved and my troubles removed.
But from the crushing weight of
my burdens, I turn my eyes to You.
I will call upon God throughout
the day and You will answer me.
I will lift my voice to You Lord
and You shall rise in my defense.
Enable me to find Rest in You,
to discover security in You, for
You’re my only rock & Rest. Amen

Lord Jesus, thank You for Bearing
my Burdens & providing a way for
me to walk in freedom from worry.
Forgive my attempts to do every
-thing myself instead of accepting
your invitation to carry my load.
Teach me to live close to You that
I not carry burdens on my own. Instead I’ll Cast my Cares on You; for What a Friend we hv in Jesus. Amen

Trusting God In Psalm 51 (May 2)

God Gives Joy to Clean Hearts

Backgrounder: Sin & confession are
prominent themes in Psalms 50-54.
David provides model of confession
after his sin with Bethsheba (Ps 51);
and goes on to describe the perilous
nature of the tongue (Ps 52) and
the folly of pursuing evil (Ps 53).
Only with God as constant source
of help (Ps 54) can you counter
the pitfalls and temptations of life.

Lord, Create in me a Clean Heart:
Have Mercy upon me O God…
Wash me from my iniquity… For
I acknowledge my transgressions..
Against U have I sinned (Ps 51:1-4)
Create in me a Clean Heart, O God..
Renew a right spirit within me…
Do not cast me away from your
presence, & Restore to me again
the Joy of your salvation (v10-12)
My sacrifice O God is a broken
spirit; a Broken and contrite heart
You God will Not Despise (v17).

Lord, help me to come to You
immediately at the first sign
of temptation so that I can
stop any wrongful thoughts
from turning into sinful actions.
And even when I do fall into sin,
help me Lord to learn from David
to quickly come before You
to Confess and Repent. Amen.

Lord, how blessed I am to have
the chance to live each day with
a pure heart, a regenerated heart,
full of the breath of Your Spirit.
Create in me a Clean Heart and
restore to me the Joy of yr salvation
Grant I’ll never take the cleansing
blood of Jesus for granted.
Holy Spirit, remind me of Your
Presence even when I sin. And
Restore me to deeper intimacy
with You than ever before. Amen.

Lord, when I sin, You do not want
extravagant attempts at penance.
For You simply want me to wrestle
with the gravity of what I’ve done.
Thank You for the implied promise
in Psalm 51:17 that You will forgive
those who are broken by their sin
and who want to turn away from it.
So, Forgive me Lord, restore me
and change me; for I want to be a
person after Your own heart.Amen
