Trusting God In Psa 79-81 (May 18)

God Will Come & Save You

The psalms of Asaph (Ps 73-83)

conclude with six testimonies to

the greatness and faithfulness of

the God of Israel. He has kept His

promises in the past (Ps 78) which

is a comforting reminder in the face

of an uncertain future (Ps 79-80).

God is there (Ps 81) & is not silent

(Ps 82-83) when it comes to cries

of help and overthrowing enemies.

Lord, we will Wait for Your Help:

How long Lord? Will You be angry

forever? Let Your compassion

quickly meet our needs, for

we are on the brink of despair.

Help us O God of our salvation!

Help us for the glory of Your name.

Save us…Why shld the nations say:

Where is their God? (Ps 79:5-10).

Restore us O God; cause Your face

to shine, and we shall be Saved…

Come back, we beg You O God

Almighty. Look down from heaven

and see our plight… Care for this

vine that You have planted, this son

You have raised (Ps 80:3, 14-15).

You Cried to me… and I Saved you…

Oh, that my people wd Listen to me!

Oh, that Israel would Follow me,

walking in my path… And I would

have satisfied you (Ps 81:7, 13-16).

Lord, we realise that You don’t
always shield Your people from
attacks of this world; for You often
have a higher purpose in mind.
Help us to endure adversity with
patience and strengthen us O God.
Remember us & we appeal to Your
compassion to meet our needs;
for we are at the brink of despair,
for the glory of Your name, Amen.

Lord, thank You for the churches
in my community. Bless the pastors
and leaders with strength and unity,
and help their congregation to grow.
Help us to work together to reach
our community for You. Help me
Lord to be an encouragement to
brothers and sisters in Christ and
not to forget that we are all running
the race together. In Jesus’ name.

Lord, help us not only wanting to
hear from You but to Listen to You.
Help us not to be skeptical and
passive hearers but willing listeners.
You Lord value discernment but
You value trust even much more.
For You urge us in Your word
to walk by faith and not by sight.
So, fill us Lord with boldness to act on what we hear from You. Amen.

God Will Provide Our Needs

Backgrounder on Psalms 78-83:
The psalms of Asaph conclude
with six testimonies to the
greatness and faithfulness of
the God of Israel. He has kept
His promises in the past (Ps 78),
a comforting reminder in the face
of an uncertain future (Ps 79-80).
God is there (Ps 81) and is not
silent (Ps 82-83) when it comes
to overthrowing idols & enemies.

Lord, You will Provide Our Needs:
They tested God in their heart
by asking for the food of their fancy.
They spoke against God… Can He
give bread also? Can He provides
meat for His people (Ps 78:18-20).
The Lord heard this & was furious…
because they did not believe in God
and did not trust in his salvation.
Yet He opened the doors of
heaven and rained down manna.
God gave them all they could eat…
He also rained meat on them… So
they ate and were well filled(v21-29)
(And) He made His own people
go forth like sheep, and guided them
in the wilderness like a flock; and
He led them on safely, so that
they did not fear; but the sea overwhelmed their enemies(v52-53)

Lord, just like the Israelites we can
become so focused on some Desire
that it consume us and all we
could see was what we didn’t have.
But our Father knows our needs.
Lord we believe You even when
we don’t see Your provision yet.
So even when we don’t see any
hope on the horizon, we can rest
assured that the provision will
be there when we need it. Amen.

Lord, as You know all our needs,
we shall not be anxious about
anything, but in every situation,
by prayer with thanksgiving, we
shall present our requests to You.
For we are assured that our
God will Supply all our needs
according to His riches in glory.
And we live with contentment as
everything comes from You. Amen.

Lord Shepherd, grateful for guiding
us Your sheep through wilderness;
and protecting us against enemies.
And in gratitude, we also thank You
for Providing basic needs as well
as giving us good things which
make life great and wonderful.
Lord, You’re truly Jehovah Jireh
our Provider. Thank You for
Providing for us in the past,
this day and in the future. Amen.

God who Performs Miracles

Backgrounder on Psalms 73-77:
In these five psalms by Asaph,
those who ignore God will find
their path slippery and their
prosperity short-lived (Ps 73 & 75)
By contrast, those who order their
lives according to God’s Word will
discover hope in the midst of havoc
(Ps 74) and resources to face every
situation victoriously (Ps 76 & 77).

Lord, You’re Able to Do Anything:
I cried out to God with my voice…
And He gave ear to me.
In the day of my trouble
I sought the Lord; My hand
was stretched out (Ps 77:1-2).
Has His mercy ceased?
Has His promise failed?
Has God forgotten
to be gracious? (v8-9).
I will remember the works
of the Lord; surely I will
remember Your wonders of old.
I will also meditate on all Your
work and talk of Your deeds…
You are the God who performs
miracles; You display Your Power
among the peoples (Ps 77:11-14).

Father God, You will always hear
us whenever we cry out to You,
for You are good and merciful.
In the day of trouble we’ll cry out
to You; our hands are extended
to You and will not be satisfied
until You answer has come.
For You are teaching us Your way
that You do just what You say
In Your time. In Jesus’ name.

Lord, in Your sovereignty, You may
choose not to deliver us from our
trials yet, then give us the ability
to hang on and keep Trusting You.
For we realise sometimes You may
be growing our faith muscles.
For You are ever so merciful and
Your promise has not ever failed.
Grant us Lord the strength to
endure crushing troubles until Your
chosen kairos timing arrives. Amen.

Lord, You’re Able to do
miracles and work wonders.
Remind me of Your limitless power.
Remind me of Your past deeds.
I serve a God who can do anything.
You demonstrate Your infinite
strengths among the nations.
Display that same might in my life.
For You love to do God-sized
things and nothing is too difficult
for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Our Shelter & Strength

In Psalms 73 to 77 by Asaph,
those who ignore God will find
their path slippery and their
prosperity short-lived (Ps 73, 75).
By contrast, those who order their
lives according to God’s Word will
discover hope in the midst of havoc
(Ps 74) and resources to face every
situation in life victoriousl(Ps 76-77)

Lord, You Our Strength & Shelter:           I am continually with You; You hold
me by my right hand. You will guide
me with Your counsel, and (then)
receive me to glory (Ps 73:23-24)
Whom have I in heaven but You?
I desire You more than no anything
on earth. My health may fail and
my spirit may grow weak, but God
remains the Strength of My Heart;
He is mine forever (Ps 73:25-26).
But as for me, how good it is to
Be Near God! I have made the
Sovereign Lord my Shelter, and
I will tell everyone about the
wonderful things You do (v28).

Lord, I want to Experience You
in fresh ways so that I can truly
say that I Desire You more than
anything. You and you alone are
the Strength of my heart. And I
am thankful you are mine forever.
Nothing can separate me from
Your love. Open my eyes and
grant me fresh vision to constantly
see Your love for me. Amen.

Lord, You are the Strength of                             my heart, and deep inside I know                           I can rely on You in any situation.          Although I may face threats to                  health, finance, safety & security                         in this world, but that isn’t my life                      for You are. O Sovereign Lord,                            Be Near Me! Help me to abide in You             and to stay anchored in You. Amen.

Lord, by faith I make U my Shelter.                         I also accept Your Presence and                receive all the blessings You offer.               Grow my faith Lord to be as big                           as the gifts You want to give.                             And having experienced You,                                   I will declare to everyone, what               wonderful things You do for me.                             I love and adore You, for You are                  more precious than anything. Amen

Thought for the Week: Psalm 71

God Delivers & Saves Us

Book 2 Psalms (42-72) is similar to
Exodus sharing Israel’s deliverance.
These psalms help us worship God,
pray for deliverance, confess sin
and encourage us to Trust God. And
in today’s psalms, David & Solomon
show God is Worthy of Praise for
His judgments (67), provision (68),
attentiveness to cries (69-70),
strength to the weak (71) and
sovereignty over the nations (72).

Lord, we’ll Testify Your Goodness:
In You O Lord I put my trust…
Deliver me in Your righteousness…
Incline Your ear to me & save me.
Be my strong refuge… for You are
My rock and my fortress (Ps 71:1-3)
Do not cast me off in the time
of old age; do not forsake me
when my strength fails… For
my enemies speak against me;
and… take counsel together,
saying: God has forsaken him…
O God, do not be far from me…
make haste to help me (v9-12).
I will hope continually, and I will
praise You yet more and more.
I will proclaim Your saving power…
I will praise Your mighty deeds,
O Sovereign Lord. I will tell
everyone that You alone are just
and good. O God, I’ve constantly
told others about the wonderful
things You do (Ps 71:14-17).

Lord, be my strong refuge,
to which I may resort continually.
You have given the commitment
to save me, for You are my rock,
my fortress and my salvation.
Deliver me O God out of my
distresses & out of the unrighteous.
For You are my hope and
In You Lord I put my trust. Amen.

Lord, when hope seems lost
and it seems that You God has
forsaken me, I will not lose faith.
When my adversaries take counsel
for my destruction, thinking
that I am alone and without help,
surely You will rise to my defense.
When they plot my ruin, You God
makes haste to rescue me. Amen.

Lord, in Your goodness & mercy,
I ask for Your speedy deliverance.
And let me proclaim all the
wonderful things You have done;
Your saving power & mighty deeds.
Thank You for Your faithfulness in
my life through the troubles and joy.
Lord, You are absolutely good and
I purpose to be devoted to You.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Reflection on Psalms 62-72

Trusting God thru His Promises

The purpose of Psalms is to provide poetry for the expression of praise, worship and confession to God.
Ps 42-72 is similar to Exodus which
describe Israel ruined & recovered.
Just as God rescued the nation
of Israel, He will also rescue us.
On Monday, we learn from Ps 62
that God Is Our Rock and Refuge.
On Tuesday, we learn from Ps 63
that God Satisfies Longing Soul.
On Wed, we learn from Psalm 66
that God Refines and Fulfills Us.
On Thu, we learn from Psalm 68
that God Cares & Bears Burdens.
On Friday, we learn from Ps 71
that God Delivers & Saves Us.
On Sat, we learn from Ps 70/72
that God Helps Those In Need.
Let us humble ourselves and pray
and seek His face. Help us O God
be Christ’s disciples who trust You:
for You truly keep Your promises;
for You are our rock and refuge;
for You satisfies longing soul,
bear burdens, refine, deliver us
and help those in need. Amen.

God Helps Those In Need

Backgrounder on Psalms 67-72:
David and Solomon show you
how praiseworthy is the great
God of Israel. God is worthy of
praise for His judgements (P67),
His compassion & provision (P68)
His attentiveness to the cry of
His children (P69-70), His strength
on behalf of the weak (P71) & His
sovereignty over the nations (P72)

Lord, You Respond to Our Cries:
(God) will judge Your people
with righteousness, and
Your people with justice…
He will bring justice to the poor
of the people; He will save the
children of the needy (Ps 72:2-4).
May the king’s rule be refreshing
like spring rain on freshly cut grass,
like showers that water the earth.
May godly flourish during His reign               May He reign fr sea to sea (v6-8).
God will Deliver the needy
who Cry out, the afflicted
who have no one to help.
He will spare the poor and
needy, and will save the souls
of the needy (Psa 72:12-13).
(And) I am poor and needy;
(so) Make Haste to me O God!
You are my help and Deliverer;
O God Do Not Delay (Ps 70:5).

Lord, thank You for You promise
that You God Hears the person
who simply Cries out to You.
For You God knows every need
even before we utter them to You.
Comforting that the simple but
heartfelt cry: Help! may be the
prayer that brings the answer.
For You Lord will spare the needy
save the souls of the needy. Amen.

Lord, I am in need of Your aid;
help me before my troubles
overwhelm and swallow me up.
You are my helper and Deliverer;
and I depend on You and not
on my own wisdom or strength.
For it’s when one depends fully on the Lord that one experiences
His help. So help me to maker
my first response rather than making You God as the last resort. Amen.

Jesus Shall Reign where’er the sun
Does his successive journeys run;
His kingdom spread from shore to shore tell moons shall wane no more
People & realms of ev’ry tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song
The weary find eternal rest,
And the sons of want are blest.
Let every creature rise and bring
His grateful honors to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud amen!

God Cares for the Defenceless

Backgrounder on Psalms 67-72:
David and Solomon show you
how praiseworthy is the great
God of Israel. God is worthy of
praise for His judgements (Ps 67),
His compassion & provision(Ps 68)
His attentiveness to the cry of
His children, His strength on
behalf of the weak (Ps 71) and His sovereignty over the nations (P72).

Lord, You Care & Bear Burdens:
Let the godly rejoice. Let them
be glad in God’s presence.
Let them be filled with joy…
A father to the fatherless,
a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families,
he leads out the prisoners
with singing (Psalm 68:3-6).
O God… You went out before
Your people… You sent
plentiful rain… You provided
from Your goodness (v7-10).
Praise be to the Lord,
to God our Savior, who
daily Bears our burdens (v19).

Lord, we praise Your greatness
and goodness, for You reign
over all & yet Care for the least.
Your mercy is over all Your works.
And when I feel lonely, let me
look to You to meet my needs.
For You are a faithful father,
provider, and indeed champion.
Grant me Lord grace to be glad
in Your presence & filled with joy
as I walk with You each day. Amen

Lord, go before us in awesome
display of Your mighty power,
making the way for Your people,
and provision of Your goodness.
Give me Lord Your abundant
showers to refresh my inheritance.
From Your bountiful treasury,
provide me with surplus of
provisions for kingdom living.Amen.

Lord, praise You that You are
in control of all things and that
You are the one who Delivers.
Thank You for going before me
and going with me; thank You
for saving me in tough situations.
I choose to believe that You will
continue to sustain me each day
through whatever comes. Amen.

Trusting God In Psalm 66 (May 10)

God who Refines & Fulfills

Psalms 60-66 are essentially
psalms of lament; as evidenced
by the cry “O God” (60, 61, 63–65)
in which the psalmist stands upon
the promise of God in the face of
defeat, discouragement and deceit.
Through it all the psalmist finds that
God is praise-worthy refuge (62,66)

Lord, You Refine & Fulfill Us:
You O God have Tested us;
You have Refined us as silver…
You have caused men to ride over
our heads; we went thru fire and
through water; but You brought us
out to rich fulfillment (Ps 66:10-12).
If I had Cherished Sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened;
but God has surely listened
and heard my voice in prayer.
Praise be to God, who has not
rejected my prayer or withheld
His love from me (v18-20).
Search Me O God and know my
heart; try me & know my anxieties
And see if there is any wicked way
in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting (Ps 139:23-24) Amen.

Father God, season of testing
can be hard and really painful.
But Lord Purify me well; and let
my faith endure the testing time.
Remind me that You are always
with me every step of the way.
Help me Lord to understand Your
ways and not mistrust You when circumstances seem to contradict
You. For You are working out Your
best purposes for my life. Amen.

Lord, I purpose to Not Entertain Sin
in my heart. I want my heart to be
right before You so that You will
hear my prayers and answer it.
I don’t do everything perfectly,
so I ask by the power of Your Spirit
You will enable me to keep my
heart pure and my hands clean.
Thank You Lord for loving me
and helping me do what is right
in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lord, search my heart, shine
Your light on my sin and forgive me
for I am crying out to You for help.
Hear me, answer the cry of
my heart and continue to show
Your unfailing love in my life.
For Lord I don’t want sins to lie on
my shoulders that bear me down;
but rather place them in Christ
the Lamb of God. In Jesus’ name.
