Gospel Truth in John 19 (Dec 28)

Christ Models Finishing Mission

Following betrayal of Judas and
denial of Peter, John focuses on
the trial before Pilate & governor’s
futile efforts to release Jesus.
Yielding to political expediency
and mob pressure, Pilate sentences
Jesus to be crucified. Many of the
details John includes are unique
to his account: the Roman soldiers
casting dice for Jesus’ robe;
the spear trust into Jesus’ side;
the post-resurrection appearances
to Mary Magdalene, Thomas & 7
disciples. Thro it all, John’s purpose
shines forth clearly to present
Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God
in His life, death and resurrection.

Lord,U Reach Out to those In Need:
(At the cross) when Jesus saw
his mother beside the disciple he
loved, He said to her: Dear woman,
here is your son. And he said to
this disciple: Here is your mother.
And from then on this disciple
took her into his home(Jn19:26-27)
Jesus knew that everything was
now Finished and to fulfill the
Scriptures he said: I am thirsty…
So when Jesus had received the
sour wine, He said: It is Finished
and gave up His Spirit (J19:28-30)

Christ Loves & Cares for Failures

Lord, You Care & Rescue Failures:
Jesus knowing all things… went
forward and said: Whom are you
seeking? They answered: Jesus
of Nazareth… And Judas who
betrayed Him stood with them…
Jesus said I am He, if you seek me,
let these go their way (Jn 18:4-8).
As Simon Peter was standing
by the fire warming himself, they
asked him again: You’re one of
his disciples, are you? He denied
it saying: No, I am not. But one
of the household slaves of the
high priest, a relative of the man
whose ear Peter had cut off, asked:
Didn’t I see you out there in the
olive grove with Jesus? Again
Peter denied it. And immediately
a rooster crowed (Jn 18:25-27).

My prayer is not for them alone.
I pray also for those who will
believe in me thro their message,

that they also may be One In Us,

from this world to the Father, having
loved His own,He loved them to the
end…So He got up from the table,
wrapped a towel around his waist
& poured water into a basin. Then
he began to wash the disciples’
feet, drying them with the towel
he had around him (John 13:1-5).
I have given you an Example, that
u should do as I have done to you…
Now that u know these things, God
will Bless u for Doing them (v15-17)
A new Commandment I give to

Christ Models Glorifying Father

Christ’s claim draw the attention
of more than the hungry and sick.
The Pharisees, religious leaders
concerned about status quo,
respond with angry resistance.
But how do you refute a Man
who preaches that He is the
Light of the World, then proves
it by giving sight to the blind? …
who claims He is the Resurrection,
then validates that claim by raising
a man from the dead. The choice
is clear: Either believe Him or seek
to silence Him once and for all.

Lord, we will Live for Your Glory:
Jesus replied: the time has come
for the Son of Man to enter into
His Glory… Those who love their life
in this world will lose it. Those who
care nothing for their life in this
world will keep it (John 12:23-25)
All those who want to be my
disciples must follow me because
my servants must be where I am.
And if they follow me, the Father
will honour them. Now my soul
is deeply troubled. Should I pray:
Father, save me from what lies
ahead? But that is the very reason
why I came! Father, bring Glory
to Your name (v26-28). Amen.

Christ the Resurrection & the Life

Christ’s claim draw the attention
of more than the hungry and sick.

who claims He is the Resurrection,
then validates that claim by raising
a man from the dead. The choice
is clear: Either believe Him or seek
to silence Him once and for all.

Lord, we’ll Persist to Wait In Faith :
Although Jesus loved Martha,
Mary & Lazarus, He Stayed where
He was for the next two days and
did Not Go to them. Finally after
two days, He said to his disciples:
Let’s Go to Judea again (Jn 11:5-7)
Jesus told (Martha): I am the
Resurrection and the life. Anyone
who believes in me will live, even
after dying. Everyone who lives
in me and believes in me will
never die (John 11:25-26).
Jesus said to Martha: If you would
believe you would see the glory
of God. Then Jesus looked up
and said: Father, I thank You that
U have Heard me… I said this for
the benefit of the people standing
here, that they may believe that
You sent me (Jn 11:41-42) Amen.

Christ the Good Shepherd

Lord, we will Hear & Follow You:
A Shepherd enters thro the gate.
He calls his own sheep by name
and leads them out… He walks
ahead of them, and they Follow
Him because they recognise
His voice (John 10:2-4).
I have come that they may
have Life and have it to the Full.
I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd gives
His life for the sheep (v10-11).
And I give them eternal life,
and they shall never perish;
neither shall anyone snatch them
out of My hand (v28). Amen.
