Thanks to God for My Redeemer
It is easy to thank God for roses.
It is much harder to thank Him
for the thorns. This hymn offers
a mature approach to thanksgiving,
showing appreciation for pain and
pleasure as well as joy and sorrow.
August Storm wrote this hymn in
1981 while still a young man of 29.
He worked for the Salvation Army
in Sweden and published this hymn
in organisation’s periodical War City.
Just eight years after writing this
hymn, Storm was stricken with
a back problem that left him crippled
for the rest of his life. He managed
to continue Salvation Army work,
and he managed a thankful spirit
even during this most difficult time.
If anything, his troubles gave more
credibility to his sermons & writings.
Give Thanks to the Lord and
proclaim His greatness. Let the
whole world know what He has
done. Sing to Him; yes sing His
praises. Tell everyone about His
wonderful deeds. Exult in His holy
name; rejoice, you who worship
the Lord. Search for the Lord
and for His strength; continually
Seek Him for help (Psalm 105:1-4).
Lord, I proclaim Your greatness and
Thank You for what You have done.
Thank You for the many promises
in Your Word that You will come
and strengthen me & reveal Yourself
so that I can know U more intimately.
Cause me to seek You with all
my heart, to search for You daily
and to depend on Your strength
each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, help me live a life of gratitude
for the many blessings You have
so generously given to me. I trust
You Lord to fill the hole in my heart
with Your presence. I bow to Your
sovereign will, whether You choose
to deliver soon or continue to
withhold what I perceive to be
missing. For I know all things will
work together for good. Amen.
Thanks to God for My Redeemer,
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a memory,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant balmy springtime
Thanks for dark and dreary fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!!!
Tks for prayers Thou has answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thks for storms that I hv weathered
Thanks for all Thou dost supply!
Thanks for pain & thanks for pleasure
Thanks for comfort in despair!
Tks for grace that none can measure
Thanks for Love beyond compare!
