Don’t Steal the Glory of God
Chapter 10-11 explain the origin of
nations after the flood. Beginning
with Noah and his three sons,
God repopulates the world. But
since the root of sin has not been
removed from individuals’ hearts,
the fruit of sin soon becomes
apparent once again in proud,
disobedient actions. God deals
with human failure by scrambling
the languages, causing humanity
to disperse over the face of the
earth as God originally commanded
Lord, we will Not Steal Your Glory:
Now the whole earth had one
language. And (the Babylonians)
said: let’s build ourselves a city & a
tower whose top is in the heavens;
let us make a name for ourselves…
And the Lord said… let’s confuse
their language, that they may not
understand one another’s speech.
So the Lord scattered them abroad
from there over the face of all the
earth… Therefore its name is called
Babel because the Lord confused
the language of all the earth;
and scattered them (Gen 11:1-9).
Lord, shortly after the flood,U made
a covenant with Noah and family.
But their descendants forgot Your
goodness, judgment and promise.
And they erect a tower to glorify
their greatness. Lord, we confess
today we still have tendency to
erect monuments to call attention
to ourselves. We realise U give us
freedom to develop many areas;
but not the freedom to replace U.
Help us be vigilant and tear down
things that stand in Yr place. Amen
Lord, I confess at times being
like the Babylonians, dreaming
of making a name for myself; and
may even have taken credit for
what U God chose to accomplish
thro me. Help me to be aware of
any glory-stealing attempts and
help me to stop them soonest.
I purpose to release all my pride,
especially in the form of selfish
ambition and glory seeking. Amen
Lord, we often build monuments
to ourselves (nice house, nice car,
nice clothes) to call attention to
our achievements. Whilst these
may not be wrong in themselves,
help us the danger when we use
them to give us identity and self-
worth, taking God’s place in our life.
Help us Lord not to allow anything
to replace You in our life. Amen.
