We have been covering the Bible
by time sequence, phase by phase
OT1: Five Books of Laws incl Job.
OT2: History Up to King David
from Joshua to 1 Chron + Psalms
as well as Reign of King Solomon
in 2nd Chron & Wisdom Poetry.
In OT Phase 3, we see decline
of the two Divided Kingdoms.
OT3A: 1 Kings, Obadiah & Joel
OT3B: 2K1-17 & Ministry of Jonah,
Amos, Hosea, Micah & Isaiah in run
up to Israel’s Dispersion in 722BC.
OT3C: 2 Kings 18-25 as well as
Nahum, Zephaniah & Habakkuk
& ministry of Jeremiah in run up
to Judah’s Dispersion (605/586BC)
Followed by Daniel.
Continuing, Ezekiel born as a priest
but ministers as a prophet during
the last days of the decline and
fall of Judah. While Jeremiah
remains in Jerusalem, Ezekiel
preaches to the exiles in Babylon.
Similar to Jeremiah in pronouncing
God’s severe judgment on the
faithless nation, Ezekiel also adds
a blessed note of hope – God’s
promise of a restored nation in
the future. Emphasising the glory
of the Sovereign God, Ezekiel
portrays God’s purpose through
both judgment and blessing “that
all might know that I am the Lord.”
We will cover the book of Ezekiel
in one weekend under 3 divisions:
a) Messages of Doom – Visions
of sin and judgment (Ezek 1-24)
b) Messages against Foreign
Nations (Ezekiel 25-32)
c) Messages of Hope – Restoring
People of God & Worship (E33-48)
Look Out for exposition on Ezekiel
to prompt spiritual renewal and
have a reverent fear of God.
