God Gives Instructions for Victory
Backgrounder on 1 Chron 10-14:
After the death of King Saul
David becomes king of all Israel.
Then David forms his mighty men
of warriors. And the Philistines
begin their attacks of Israel. Learn
from David his secret to successes.
Lord, we will Inquire for Instruction:
Now the Philistines has come and
raided the Valley of Rephaim; so
David inquired of God: Shall I go
and attack the Philistines? Will U
hand them over to me? The Lord
answered him: Go I will hand them
over to you. So David defeated
them there (1 Chron 14:9-11).
Then the Philistines once again
made a raid on the valley.
Therefore David inquired again
of God, and God said to him:
You shall Not Go Up after them;
circle around them, and come
upon them in front of the mulberry
trees… So David did as God
commanded, and they drove back
the army of the Philistines (v13-17)
Lord, we learnt from the incident
that David as the new king could
could have taken the Philistine
threat as a personal challenge
to prove his fitness to rule.
Instead he turned to You God
for wisdom in responding to
the attack. He didn’t do anything
before asking You for direction.
He prayed before proceeding.
Lord, remind us to always inquire
of You first before we take action.
I don’t want to assume that
because You instructed me
in a certain way before, You will
instruct me in the same way
each time I am faced with a similar
situation. I don’t want to mistakenly
think I have all the answers when
only You have all the answers
for the situations of my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Lord, If You say go, we will go
If You say wait, we will wait
If You say step out on the water
And they say it can’t be done
We’ll fix our eyes on You
and we will come
Your ways are higher than our ways
And the plans that You have laid
Are good and true
If You call us to the fire
You will not withdraw Your hand
We’ll gaze into the flames
and look for You. Amen.
