The Mighty One Is For Us
Backgrounder on Josh 22-24:
After being commended for their
faithful service in conquering
the land of Canaan, the warriors
of the tribes east of Jordan are
sent home. They recognise that
the Jordan River (which forms a
natural barrier between the tribes)
may one day form a spiritual
barrier as well. To prevent this,
a memorial altar is built on the
riverbank. The book closes with
Joshua’s final address in which
he gives the people an altimatum:
Choose you this day whom ye will
serve… as for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord (J24:15).
Lord, U the Mighty One Is For Us:
Then Reuben, Gad and the half-
tribe of Manasseh replied to
the heads of the clans of Israel:
The Mighty One, God, the Lord!
(El Elohim Jehovah) He knows,
and may Israel itself knows. If it
was rebellion, or if in an unfaithful
act against the Lord do not save us
this day! If we have built ourselves
an altar to turn from following
the Lord, let the Lord Himself
punish us (Joshua 22:21-23).
El Elohim Jehovah, we thank you
that in your great power & might,
You also remain as Jehovah, the
relational God. U can accomplish
your plans without me but thank U
for giving me a role in your plans.
Lord, we confess that we have not
always honoured you as the Mighty
One over all. Often I place my own
wants and desires above what
U want and desire in & thro me.
I humbly bow before U to honour
your rightful place in my life.
Lord, teach us to love like you.
Teach me to walk in your strength
thro the power of the Holy Spirit.
And intervene when situations
arise so that You can manifest
your might and power in my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
