Prayer Thot for the Day (Oct 5)

I Come to the Garden Alone

Backgrounder: Austin Miles
writes his story on how the words
were written to “In the Garden.”
“One day in March 1912, I was
seated in the darkroom where I
kept my photographic equipment
I drew my Bible toward me; it
opened at my favorite chapter,
John 20… As I read it, I seemed
to be part of the scene. I became
a silent witness to that dramatic
moment in Mary’s life, when
she knelt before her Lord, and
cried, “Rabboni!” . . . Under the
inspiration of this vision I wrote
as quickly as the words could
be formed the poem exactly
as it has since appeared. That
same evening I wrote the music.”

Lord, we want to Be With You:
Mary saw two angels in white
sitting where the body of
Jesus was lain. Then they said:
Woman why are you weeping?
She said to them: Because
they have taken away my Lord..
Now when she turned around
and saw Jesus standing there…
Jesus said to her: Woman, why
are you weeping? Whom are you
seeking? She supposing him
to be the gardener said to him:
Tell me where you have laid Him.
Jesus said to her: Mary! She
turned and said to him: Rabonni!
Jesus said to her: Go to my
brethren and say to them:
I am ascending to my Father
and your Father (Jn 20:12-17).

Father, thanks for the wonderful
fact that Christ is indeed risen!
Help us to put every aspect
of our lives in that perspective.
Lord God, You brought us healing
through the wonders of Easter.
Continue to pour out Your mercy
and grace on Your people.
And lead us to perfect freedom
in Christ, by which the joy that
gladdens our way on earth
will be fulfilled in heaven.

Lord, thank You for being my
Good Shepherd! I am so thankful
You speak & lead me through life.
I’m sorry I haven’t listened to You
so many times when You have
tried to warn, help and guide me.
I have lost so much because
I didn’t listen when You spoke.
But rather than focus on past
losses, I purpose to do everything
within my ability to hear You now
and to obey what U tell me to do.

Lord, I boldly confess that U are
my Shepherd & I am Your sheep.
You promise that I will know
Your voice and that the voice
of a stranger I will not follow.
Therefore, I declare by faith
that I recognize the voice of
Jesus when He speaks to me.
I am not hesitant to follow,
but I am bold and quick to obey
what He speaks to my heart.
I declare all these by faith
in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on
the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling
on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain:
And He walks with me,
And He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we
tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound
of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush
their singing,
And the melody that He gave
to me
Within my heart is ringing.

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me
be falling,
But He bids me go; through
the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling.
