Jesus Loves Me
Backgrounder: Anna Warner and
her sister Susan grew up near
West Point Military Academy
where they became known for
leading Sunday school services.
After the death of their father,
the sisters supported themselves
with their literary endeavours.
Susan became known for as a
best-selling novelist. Anna also
wrote novels and published two
collections of poems. She wrote
this simple hymn in 1860 to be
included in one of her sister’s
novels. In the story, it was a poem
of comfort spoken to a dying child.
Today millions around the world
sing these words: Yes Jesus loves
me. This profound yet simple truth
is certainly worth singing about.
Lord, we love U for U first Love us:
God loved the world so much that
He gave his one and only Son,
so that everyone who believes
in Him will not perish but have
eternal life. God sent his Son into
the world not to judge the world,
but to save the world through him
(John 3:16-17).
Father God, thank you for loving
me beyond what I could imagine.
It amazes me that you love me so
much that you sent your only Son
to pay the ultimate price so that
I could know you and experience
eternal life. Let your love flow thro
me so that even more people may
experience your boundless love.
Lord Jesus, it is hard to understand
love so great as Yours. For You
laid down Your life for me so
that I can live forever with You.
My response to Your first loving
me is to love You wholeheartedly
in return. Help me to lay down
my life fully for You in serving
Yr purpose here on earth. Amen.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.
