Seeking God In Jeremiah 1 (Sep 12)

God Gives You Assignment

For centuries prophets had come
to God’s people with the ultimatum:
Shape up or God will ship you out
in judgment. But their message
fell on deaf ears and stony hearts.
At last it is time for God to show
His words are no idle threat.
He selects a messenger – Jeremiah,
the son of a priest to announce
that Judah’s condition is terminal.
For their idolatry and indifference,
the people will reel in judgment
at the hands of the Babylonians.

Lord, we’ll Share Your Message:
The Lord gave me this message…
Before I formed you(Jeremiah) in the
womb I knew you, before you were
born I Set You Apart (Jer 1:4-5).
The Lord replied: Don’t say, I am
too young, for you must go where
ever I send you and say whatever
I Tell you. And don’t be afraid
of the people, for I will be
with you and will protect you.
I the Lord have spoken! (v7-8).
The Lord reached out and
touched my mouth and said: Look,
I have Put My Words in your mouth!
See, I have this day set you over
the nations… Then the Lord said:
I am ready to perform My word (v9-12)

Lord, speak to my thoughts and
let me know which ones are Yours.
Help me Lord to discern the deep
impulses of my heart that comes
from You and to believe in them.
Thank You Lord for knowing me
completely before I was even born.
Honoured to be chosen by You God
and Set Apart for a special task.
Show me Lord and make clear the
assignment You have for me. Amen.

Lord, I don’t want to make excuses
for not carrying out Your purpose.
But I do feel inadequate to do the
things You are calling me to do.
Yet I don’t want fear to keep me
from doing it; and so I accept the task.
Lord, I have to depend on You to do
it through me; for after all You are
the author of all good things. Amen.

Lord, grateful & humbled as a sinner
that You have reserved a special task
including a message for me to share.
Thank You that I am sufficient to
the task because You will equip me.
Reveal to me Lord where and with
whom I am called to serve You.
Put Your Words in my mouth so that
I can pray by the power of Your Spirit.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Thought for the Week: Isaiah 40

God Comforts & Renews Strength

Isaiah is like a miniature Bible.
The first 39 chapters of Isaiah,
like the 39 books of OT proclaim
judgment upon sinful mankind.
And the final 27 chapters of Isaiah,
like 27 books of NT, proclaim a
message of Comfort and Hope.
The Messiah is coming to be the
Saviour of sinful people. Therefore,
Comfort my people, say your God.

Lord, You’re Tender to Your People:
Comfort, comfort my people,
says your God… That her warfare
is ended, that her iniquity
is pardoned (Isaiah 40:1-2).
Behold the Lord God shall come
with a strong arm… He tends His
flock like a Shepherd: He gathers
the lambs in His arms and carries
them close to His heart (v10-11).
The Everlasting God… Gives Power
to the Weak, and to those who have
no might He Increases Strength…
But those Who Wait on the Lord
Shall Renew their Strength: They
shall mount up with wings like eagles
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk & not faint (v28-31).

Lord, You are our Shepherd who
faithfully feed & guide Your flock.
Grateful Lord also for Your
comforting care and protection
for You hold the lambs in Your arms.
What a word of comfort Lord
and what an amazing promise.
When I am afraid or weary or tired,
remind me that You desire to carry
me with all tenderness. Amen.

Lord, thank You for Promise
to give Strength to the weak.
Sometimes we are weak and feel
we can’t go on to live as we should.
But in You there is new power
to “fly”, to run and to persevere.
Grant us Lord the experience
of Your limitless Strength so that
we can serve You faithfully and be
a light for You in a dark world. Amen

Lord, sometimes I will feel weary
in the challenges of life while
waiting for fulfillment of promise.
But Your Word says those who
hope in You will find new Strength.
Help me Lord to trust that
You will give me the strength
to run and not grow weary;
and to walk and not faint.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Reflection on Isaiah 40-66 (Sep 11)

Seeking God thru Biblical Prayers

The purpose of the prophetic book
of Isaiah is to call the nation of Judah back to God and to tell of God’s salvation through the Messiah.
On Monday, we learn from Isaiah 40
that God Comforts & Renews Strength.
On Tuesday, we learn from Isaiah 43
that God With You Through Trouble.
On Wed, we learn from Isaiah 55
that God’s Word Will Be Fulfilled.
On Thursday, we learn from Isaiah 57
that God Refreshes & Gives Courage.
On Friday, we learn from Isaiah 59
that God Covenants and Saves.
On Saturday, we learn from Isaiah 64
that God Acts For Those Who Wait.
Let us humble ourselves and pray
and seek His face. Help us O God
to be disciples who deeply Love
and Trust You; for You Lord are

God Acts For Those Who Wait

Backgrounder on Isaiah 63-66:
In the light of the present calamity
and the coming glory, there can
only be one fitting response
from God’s people: repentance
for their pride and rebellion.
The twin themes that have dominated
Isaiah’s message- condemnation
and consolation appear again
in the concluding verses:
The hand of the Lord shall be known
toward his servants (consolation)
and His indignation towards His
enemies (condemnation) (66:14).

Lord, You Act for Those Who Wait:
O that You would burst from
the heavens and Come Down!
How the mountains would quake
in Your presence!.. When You
Came Down long ago, You did
awesome things beyond our
highest expectations (Isa 64:1-3).
For since the beginning of the world
no one has heard nor perceived
by the ear, no eye has seen any
God besides You, who acts on behalf
of those Who Wait for Him (v4).
O Lord, You are our Father;
We are the clay and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand.
Do not be furious O Lord,
Nor remember iniquity forever;
Indeed please look – we all are
Your people (Isaiah 64:8-9).

Lord, thank You for doing awesome
things and for working beyond
our highest expectations.
And You Lord continue to do
them for those who wait for You.
Help me to wait for You with hope;
fill me with a holy expectancy of
Your Coming; and glorify Yourself
through my ministry and life. Amen.

Lord, You have good plans for us
and Your plans are worth the wait.
But in our instant society, waiting
can be rather tough, especially
so when the wait has been long.
Hear my cry Lord for I am waiting
on You to act on Your plan for me.
Help me not to put a time limit
on when I think you should act.
I want to trust that You will act
in just the right time. Amen.

Lord, You are our Father, and
all we are the work of Your hand.
Do not be furious O Lord,
nor remember our sin forever;
for we are after all Your people.
And surely You will make
all things beautiful In Your Time.
Lord, please show me everyday;
As You’re teaching Your way
And I’ll do just what You say
In Your time. In Jesus’ name.

God’s Words Hold Good

Backgrounder on Isaiah 58-62:
Isaiah catches a glimpse of the
Glorious Future awaiting the people
of God. A day is coming when
darkness will be swept away,
affliction will cease and the
glad tidings of salvation shall
be proclaimed throughout Zion.
God has not forsaken His people
& groaning has given way to glory.

Lord, Your Words Hold Good:
Behold the LORD’s hand is not
shortened, that it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.
But your iniquities have separated
you from your God; your sins
have hidden His face from you,
so that He will not hear (Isa 59:1-2).
He saw that there was no one,
He was apalled there was
no intercessor. (Therefore)…
He himself stepped in to save them.
He put on righteousness as his
body armour & placed the helmet
of salvation on his head (v16-17).
The Redeemer will come… to
those who turned from transgression…
This is My Covenant with them,
says the Lord. My Spirit Will Not
Leave them and Neither Will These
Words I have given you (v20-21).

Lord, I know my life does not work
well when I am not living Your way.
Help me to stay undeceived about
my own sin so that I can confess
it immediately & be cleansed of it.
I don’t want anything to separate
me from You and hinder my prayers
by causing You to not hear them.
Show me how to tear down any
wall of separation that may arise
because of sin in my heart. Amen.

Lord, You Promise Protection
when I wear Your armour. Help me
hold on to the truth that You died
for me & I have Your righteousness.
I am also grateful for the helmet
of salvation and its protection.
Pray that the assurance of salvation
will guard my thoughts and mind
even as difficulties come and
doubts attempt to creep in. Amen.

Lord, thank You for promising
Your Spirit Is With me forever and
that Your words will Never Fade away.
Help me gracious Lord to grab
hold of Your promises in faith.
In a constantly shifting world,
help me stand firm in Your Words.
And let Your words sink deep into
my heart and never be affected
by the shaking around me. Amen.

God Refreshes & Gives Courage

Backgrounder on Isaiah 52-57:
Nowhere in the OT will you see
a clearer picture of the horrible
price of your redemption than in
these six chapters. Many verses
show the anquish our Savior,
as suffering servant, endured
in paying the awful price of sin.
For instance, His visage was so
marred more than any man (52:14)
and: He was wounded… He was
bruised… the chastisement of
our peace was upon Him; and with
His stripes we are healed (53:5).

Lord, You’ll Refresh the Humble:
He who puts his trust in Me shall
possess the land… Prepare the way,
Take the stumbling block out of
the way of My people (Isa 57:13-14).
The high and lofty one who inhibits
eternity, the Holy One says this:
I live in that high and holy place
with those whose spirits are
Contrite and Humble. I Refresh
the humble and give new Courage
to those with repentant hearts.
For I will not content forever,
nor will I always be angry (v15-16).
I have seen his ways, and will
heal him; I will also lead him, and
restore comfort to him (Isa 57:18).

Lord, You are high and lifted up,
glorious and exalted, and I am not;
so I will put my total trust in You.
I bow before You and ask You to
develop in me a heart of humility.
Your Word says that You will not
despise a repentant heart, and
so I ask You to work that in me,
and take away the stumbling block.
Thank You for meeting me right
where I am and renewing me. Amen.

Lord, help me live in Your power
& to rise above circumstances.
Help me to humbly rest in You
and grant me the needed strength.
Help me Lord to live as one who
is constantly Refreshed by You.
Help me to be lowly and be lifted
up in boldness and new Courage.
For I want to be in syn with You and
be drawn into Your purposes. Amen.

Lord, thank You for the promise of
healing and restoring Your people.
For a broken spirit and a contrite
heart You will surely not despise.
You desire truth in the inward parts,
a broken spirit and a contrite heart.
Lord, my heart is prone to wander;
prone to leave, the God I love.
Here’s my heart, Lord take & seal it;
Seal it for, Your courts above. Amen.

God’s Word Not Return Void

Backgrounder on Isaiah 52-57:
Nowhere in the OT will you see
a clearer picture of the horrible
price of your redemption than in
these six chapters. Many verses
show the anquish our Savior,
as suffering servant, endured
in paying the awful price of sin…
His visage was marred more than
any man (52:14), He was bruised…
and with his stripes we are healed
(53:5); The LORD laid on him
the iniquity of us all (53:6).

Lord, Your Ways Be Accomplished:
Seek the Lord while He may be
found, Call on Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous… his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord (Isa 55:6-7)
My thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways My ways… For as
the heaven higher than the earth so
are My Ways Higher than your ways,
& My thots than your thots (v8-9).
My word that goes out from My
mouth: it will not return to me empty
but Will Accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for
which I sent it (Isa 55:11). Amen.

Lord, Your Word simply tells me
to seek and to call, and that’s it.
But I have a hard time believing
the simplicity of it all. Captivate
me Lord each time I come seeking
You with the sound of Your voice.
And in Your mercy, please reward
my seeking and calling quickly and
decisively enough to establish this
posture as a pattern in my life. Amen

Lord, Your plan may seems crazy,
for You sometimes use foolish things
to accomplish Your purposes. For Your thoughts are not our thoughts,
neither are our ways Your ways.
When things don’t make sense
prompt us Holy Spirit to ask You for
wisdom to discern what You’re doing
For I will be a fool if I didn’t Take
You at Your Word & Trust U. Amen.

Lord, I praise You that Your words
do not come back empty, that
they do the work You sent them
to do & accomplish Your purpose.
Grant me to be hungry enough to
Feed on Your Word each day. And
grant me to Value Your Word more
than silver, gold or anything that this
world offers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God With You Through Trouble

The book of Isaiah has been likened
to a miniature Bible, its 66 chapters
paralleling the 66 books of Bible.
The first 39 chapters of Isaiah,
like the 39 books of OT proclaim
judgment upon sinful mankind.
God’s patience is great, but He
will not allow persistent sin go not
punished. The final 27 chapters of
Isaiah, like the 27 books of the NT,
proclaim a message of comfort
and hope. The Messiah is coming
to be the Saviour of sinful people.

Lord, You are With Us thru Trials:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed u;
I have summoned u; you are mine.
When you go thro deep waters
and great trouble, I Will Be With you.
When you go through rivers of
difficulty, you will not drown!…
For I am the Lord your God…
your Savior (Isaiah 43:1-3).
Besides Me there is no saviour…
I have declared and saved…
Therefore you are My witnesses
says the LORD that I am God…
No one can snatch anyone
out of My hand (v11-13).
I will even made a road in the
wilderness & rivers in the desert…
I provide water in the desert and
streams in the wasteland, to give
drink to my people…that they
may Proclaim My Praise (v19-21).

Lord, thank You for Your promises
of presence, deliverance and
protection. Because You’ve said:
“I Will Be With you”, what have
I to fear? Help me to trust in You,
not only in the small details of life,
but also in times of great trouble.
For You are not only my Lord and
my God, You are indeed also my
Deliverer and my Savior. Amen.

Lord, Your Word says You’re always
with me in times of great trouble.
Help me hang on to Your promise
even when I can’t sense Your
presence. For nothing and no one
can altar what You have spoken.
Give me strength to pass through
my trials and ultimately triumph so
that I will not be in shame and that
Your name will be glorified. Amen.

Lord, I want to show my love,
devotion and reverence for
You as I lift You up in worship.
I Praise You for who You are and
for all You have done in my life.
Help me live every day with praise
and thanksgiving in my heart.
Help me fulfill my greatest calling
and purpose on earth, which is
to worship and Glorify You. Amen.

Thought for the Week: Isaiah 26

Trust God for Giving Peace

In Isaiah 24-27, Isaiah steps back to
survey the landscape & what he sees
causes him to respond in jubilation.
Earth and heaven experience God’s
sifting judgment. The redeemed ones,
vindicated at last, break forth in
spontaneous song, exalting the Lord.
Though downcast, the people of God
now have something worth singing
about refuge, deliverance and ultimate
triumph in the Holy One of Israel.

Lord, You Give Peace to the Trusting:
You will keep in Perfect Peace
those whose minds are stayed
on You because they Trust in You.
Trust in the Lord forever, for
the Lord, the Lord Himself is
the Rock eternal (Isaiah 26:3-4).
O upright One, You make the way
of the righteous smooth. Yes Lord,
walking in the way of Your laws,
we Wait for You; The desires of
our souls is for Your name and for
the remembrance of You (v7-8).
Lord, You will establish peace
for us, for You have also done
all our works in us (v12) Amen.

Lord, You promise Peace to those
who Trust in You & set their minds
on You. Lord, You are my rock, You
are dependable and worthy of my
full trust. And I know as long as
I look to You, I cannot be shaken.
Though my heart may be troubled,
I choose to focus on You, believe
Your Word, pray Your Word & stand
by it. Help me make Your promises
the foundation each day. Amen.

Lord, in accordance to Your Word,
I can have peace about the future
because I Wait upon You. Although
I don’t know all the details about
what is to come, You know every-
thing & my future is in Your hands.
Help me Lord to walk faithfully with
You each day in Your Word and in
prayer so that I can move into the
purposes You’ve for my life. Amen.

Lord, thank You for promising to
Establish peace for us & Your perfect
peace will guard our heart and mind.
In Christ I can be relaxed and be at
peace in midst of perplexities of life.
I need Your peace as the list of tasks
and challenges replay in my head.
Help me do these things and trust
You with all my heart; and keep me
praying instead of worrying. Amen.
