Seeking God In Deuteronomy 26

Prayer as Thanksgiving (Feb 11)

Moses urges obeying God’s laws
which bring blessings and warns
disobedience bringing misfortune.
The 10 Commandments and all of
God’s laws point out to us where
we fall short and show us How
we should Live as God’s people.
To ensure orderly mgt of God’s
holy people in the Holy Land,
God provides societal regulations
and Genesis 25 & 26 focuses
on holiness in human relations.

Lord, we thank You for Your Grace:
The Egyptians mistreated us,
afflicted us and laid hard bondage
in us. Then we cried out to Lord
God… and the Lord heard our voice
and looked on our affliction…
So the Lord brought us out of
Egypt with a mighty hand…
So you shall rejoice in every good
thing which the Lord your God
has given to you (Deut 26:6-11).
I have obeyed the voice of the Lord
my God and have done according
to all that You have commanded me.
Look down from… heaven
and bless Your people (v14-15).
You have declared… the Lord is
your God. And you have promised
to walk in His ways, and to obey
His commands… Also the Lord has
proclaimed you to be His special
people, just as He promised you,
that You should keep all His
commandments (Deut 26:17-18).

Father, thank You for Moses’
Second Address which gives us
the principles for godly living.
Help us Not operate out of fear
but remember Your mighty acts.
Help us to be always thankful
for all that You have done for us.
Help us not be rebellious but
instead Obey Your Commands.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Lord, we have transgressed Your
commandments & forgotten them,
and have not obeyed your voice.
I pray that You will forgive us our
many sins, and bring about a fresh
spiritual awakening among us that
we may once again be careful to
walk in your ways, and keep your
commandments and obey Your voice
with all our heart and all our soul.

Lord, thanks for lavishing Your love
& bringing me out of slavery to sin.
I declare You are the Lord my God;
& I’ll have no other gods before U.
Help me obey Your commands
relating to most frustrating areas
of brokenness and shortcomings.
I ask for enough love, obedience,
reverence and faithfulness to fulfill
Your ideal mission for me. Amen.

Prayer to God of gods (Feb 10)

Moses continues his review of
Israel’s history as an illustration
to the people of God’s faithfulness
thru their 40 year wilderness trek.
God’s provision in the past provides
confidence for the future. He will
continue to do great things for
His people if they continue to walk
in obedience to Him. But if they are
disobedient, ignore His commands
and worship other gods, God will
judge their rebellion. The facts are
clear: If Israel loves and obeys God,
she will experience blessing. If she
disobeys, God’s judgment is sure.

Praise be to Elohei Haelohim:
Moses: What does the Lord your
God requires of you but to walk
in all His ways, to love and serve
Him with all your heart; and to
keep the commandments for
your good. Indeed the heavens
and the earth belong to the Lord.
Be stiff-necked no longer. For the
Lord your God is the God of gods
(Elohei Haelohim) and the Lord
of lords, the mighty and the
awesome God (Deut 10:12-17).
You shall fear the Lord your God;
you shall serve Him, and to
Him you shall hold fast (v30).

Elohei Haelohim, You are the God
of gods and the Lord of lords.
No one can force Your hand,
and You do not bend to pressure
from people. You rule according
to truth and Your righteousness.
You are the great and powerful
all-knowing God! And everything
we enjoy comes from You. Amen.

Elohei Haelohim, You are higher than
any other for You are God of gods.
Forgive us for looking to idols –
those things we look to in place of
You, when in need or facing a trial.
Forgive us for making our vocation
an idol, or status, or even recreation
or relationship. Have mercy upon
us and draw us close to You. Amen.

Elohei Haelohim, reign and rule
over the difficult circumstances
of my life that seek to defeat me.
You are stronger than all, higher
than all and wiser than all; and
nothing is impossible with You.
Lord, let me see You supremely
represented in my life, for my
challenges are nothing to You.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Seeking God In Deut 9 (Feb 9)

Intercessory Prayer for Mercy

Moses continues his review of
Israel’s history as an illustration
to the people of God’s faithfulness
through their 40-year wilderness
trek. God’s provision in the past
provides confidence for the future.
He will continue to do great things
for His people if they continue
to walk in obedience to Him.
But if they are disobedient, ignore
His commands and worship other
gods, God will judge their rebellion.

Lord, we will Intercede for others:
Moses feared the wrath of the
Lord for he was angry enough to
destroy you. But the Lord listened
to me…Likewise when the Lord sent
you from Kadesh Barnea saying:
Go up and possess the land which
I have given you, then you rebelled
against the Lord and you did not
believe Him nor obey His voice.
Thus I prostrated myself before
the Lord 40 days and 40 nights
because the Lord had said He
would destroy you (Deut 9:19-25).
Therefore I prayed to the Lord…
O Lord God, do not destroy
Your people and Your inheritance…
whom You have brought out of
Egypt… Remember Your servants,
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (v26-27)
Remember Abraham… to whom
You swore by Your own self…
I will multiply your descendants
as the stars of heaven (Ex 32:13).

Father God, we are impressed
by the example of Moses.
Prostrating himself before the
Mercy Seat, Moses pled for the
forgiveness of the people who
had given him much heartache.
He confessed their great sin
and again prayer was successful.
Help us Lord to emulate Moses
of coming to You in humility for
You God will bent down to listen to
the prayer of Your servants. Amen.

Father God, help me to be one of
the intercessors for Your people.
Help me not to be so focused
on my interest and situation that
I don’t pray for the need of others.
Give me fervent faith to believe that
my prayers can make a difference
in their lives. Show me the people
I need to pray and how I should
specifically pray for them. Amen.

Lord, noted Moses urged You
to remember the covenant You
made to Abraham to multiply his
descendants as stars in heaven.
Help me have a greater knowledge
of Your Word so that I will always
pray in alignment with Your will.
Help me Lord to never get in
the way of what You want to do
in response to prayers. Amen.

Seeking God In Deut 4 (Feb 7)

Entering His Presence In Prayer

God has led his people out of
Egypt and across the great desert.
Now they stand ready to enter
the promised land. But before the
Israelites go into the land, Moses
has impt advice to them which he
delivers in 3 parts. In the 1st part,
Moses reviews the history of
Israel with the crucial lesson: that
obedience brings blessing while
disobedience results in judgment.

Lord, we’ll Draw Close to You:
Observe the laws carefully, for this
will show yr wisdom to the nations,
who will say: “Surely this great
nation is a wise and understanding
people.” What other nation is so
great as to have their god near
them the way the Lord is Near us
whenever we Pray to Him (D4:6-7)
The Lord Spoke to you from the
heart of the fire. You Heard the
sound of His words but Didn’t See
His form; there was Only A Voice.
So He declared to you His covenant
which He commanded you to
perform the Ten Commandments…
And the Lord commanded me…
to teach you statutes… that you
might observe them (v12-14).
You will seek the Lord your God,
and you will find Him if you seek
Him with all your heart (v29).

Lord, we thank You for being Close
to us when we pray; and thank You
that You hear and will answer us.
Grateful that in Your presence there
will be transformation for my life.
I Draw Close to You and ask for an
increasing sense of Your presence.
I ask that You will help me to pray
more each day and grant me faith
to believe for the answers. Amen.

Lord, in our relationship, there will
be a constant interplay between
the hidden and the revealed.
You Lord don’t compel our faith;
and we always have to choose
to see what You are revealing.
So even as I hear Your voice but
don’t see Your form, enable me to
accept as much of what You reveal.
Help me accept Your revelation
and trust what I can’t see. Amen.

Lord, You want Your people to
place holiness as a way of life and
be obedient to You in every action.
Help us always to hallow Your laws,
to draw close to You by praying.
Help us to purpose in our heart
Not be Afraid but Trust You God
by remembering Your mighty acts.
Help us to seek You with all our
heart and all our soul. Amen.

Seeking God In Deuteronomy 3

Prayer to God Who Rules (Feb 6)

In his first of three sermons to the
nation, Moses reviewed the past.
God had promised His people a
new homeland, but Israel failed
to possess it because of unbelief.
For 40 years they wondered and
died. Now, with the passing of that
unbelieving generation, God has led
the nation in smashing victories over
Sihon and Og, bringing them to the
threshold of the land once again.
But before they are ready to enter,
they must learn a crucial lesson:
that obedience brings victory
and blessing while disobedience
results only in defeat and judgment.

All Praise be to God who Rules:
I commanded Joshua at that time:
Yr eyes have seen all that the Lord…
has done to these two kings; so
will the Lord do to all the kingdoms
through which you pass. You must
not fear them, for the Lord your God
Himself fights for you (Deut 3:21-22)
Moses pleaded with the Lord:
O Sovereign Lord (Adonai) God,
You’ve begun to show Your servant
Your greatness & Your strong hand;
for what god is there… who can
do such mighty acts? Let me
go over and see the good land
beyond the Jordan (Deut 3:23-25)
But the Lord was angry with me…
Speak no more to Me on that matter.
Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift
your eyes… for you shall not cross
over this Jordan. But command
Joshua and encourage him… for
he shall go over this people and
he shall cause them to inherit the
land which you will see (v26-28).

Lord Adonai, we worship U as the
God who Rules & Master Over All.
Who can do the amazing and
powerful things You can do?
We acknowledge Your actions
to do as You please for You are
our Owner and owner of all things.
You Lord made us at creation;
bought us at Calvary; and You’ve
the right to rule our lives. Amen.

Lord Adonai, I humbly bow & ask
for Your forgiveness for failing
to honour You Lord as I should.
Forgive me for the many times
I have gone about the day without
considering that You are the Lord
and Master over all. Forgive me
for my shortsightedness & lack
of faith in You and Your power.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Lord Adonai, we note that the
fervent prayer of Moses to cross
over Jordan was not granted.
Align our thoughts, emotions and
actions to Yours so that we can
fully experience Your blessing.
Empower us to live our days
in such a way that we discover
and do the calling You have given
to each of us. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Thought for the Week: Num 11

Prayer of the Discouraged

The time has come for the final
journey to Canaan. After a special
celebration of the Passover, the
people watch as the pillar of cloud
begins to move. It’s time to march!
But the thrill of expectation soon
gives way to tedium of travel. And
Moses is faced with numerous
problems: complaints about travel
conditions and food, longings for
the good old days in Egypt, greedy
hoarding of the quail God supplies
and jealousy by Miriam and Aaron
toward his position of leadership.
In spite of the difficulties, the
people finally arrive at Kadesh-
Barnea, on the doorstep of Canaan!

Lord, we need Your Encouragement:
The foreigners who were travelling
with the Israelites began to crave
the good things of Egypt. And the
Israelites also began to complain:
Oh for some meat! We remember
the fish we used to eat in Egypt. And
we had all the cucumbers, melons,
leeks, onions and garlic we wanted.
But now our appetites are gone.
All we… see is manna(Num 11:4-9).
Moses heard the people weeping…
So Moses said to the Lord: Why
have You afflicted Your servant?
And why have… You have laid the
burden of all these people on me?
I am not able to bear all these
people alone because the burden
is too heavy for me. If You treat me
like this, please kill me here & now.
So the Lord said: Gather 70 elders…
They will help you carry the burden
of the people so that you will not
have to carry it alone (v10-17).

Father God, help us not to grumble
by directing our attention on the
right things. Help us to be careful
not to let dissatisfaction reigns
when our attention shifts fr what
we have to what we don’t have.
We purpose to Be Thankful for
what God has given us & not allow
our unfulfilled desires to cause
us to forget Your gifts. Amen.

Lord, like Moses our feelings can
give way, when unreasonable
murmuring get the better of us.
Like Moses we can be burdened
and glad that You God knew it
and graciously provided relief.
Thankful that though Moses prayed
amiss, You God in condescension
and grace knew how to respond to
the prayer of a discouraged heart.
Help us Father learn how to rest
in the joy of the Lord; for You are
our All in all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Father, I lift to You the areas of
my life that are overwhelming.
I’ve not come to You to complain,
but rather to seek Your help.
Where I have tried to handle
everything in my own strength
instead of depending on You,
I sincerely ask Your forgiveness.
I pray You Lord to enable me to
rise above the challenges. Amen.

Reflection on Numbers (Feb 6)

On Thur, we learn from Num 12
about Prayer of the Meek.
On Friday, we learn from Num 14
about Prayer of Intercession.

about Prayer to the Holy God.
Let us humble ourselves and pray
and seek His face…In Jesus’ name.

Seeking God In Num 20/21(Feb 5)

Respecting & Obeying Holy God

As the Israelites march to Canaan,
they defeat three enemies, the
Canaanites, Amorites & Bashanites.
But on the heels of victory they
suffer defeat at the hands of a
persistent foe: grumbling. Because
of people’s constant complaining,
God sends fiery serpents to
chasten His rebellious nation. The
threat of Israel’s advance prompts
neighbouring pagan nations to hire
Balaam to bring down a curse upon
God’s people. But instead of curse,
Balaam delivers a sweeping witness
to the glorious future of Israel.

Lord, we will Respect & Obey You:
There was no water, so the people
rebelled. They blamed Moses: Why
did you make us leave Egypt and
bring us to this horrible place? This
land has no grain, no figs, no grapes
& no water to drink! (Num 20:2-5)
Speak to the rock before their eyes
and it will yield its water. So Moses
took the rod from the Lord…and he
said to them: You Rebels! Must we
bring water for you out of this rock?
Then Moses…struck the rock twice
with his rod and water came out…
The Lord spoke to Moses: Because
you did not…hallow Me… (so) you
shall Not bring this assembly into the
land which I have given them (v8-12)
The people came to Moses & said:
We sinned when we spoke against
the Lord and against you. Pray that
the Lord will take the snakes away…
So Moses prayed for the people.
The Lord said: Make a snake & put
it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten
can look at it & live (Num 21:7-9)

Father, when Israelites complained
against You God and rebelled
against Moses, that led to disaster.
Help me to Be Careful when under
difficult and confusing situations.
Help me to beware of grumbling
and bitterness which can lead
to resentment and even rebellion.
Help me Lord to choose a better
attitude and focus on what You
God has done & blessings. Amen

Holy Spirit, help me be gracious &
Careful with my words when under
pressure or when I am frustrated.
Help me not to trust and rely on
past experience of doing things;
but instead respond in faith, trusting
You and obeying Your instructions.
Help me Honor Father as holy God.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Lord Jesus, I look to You as Saviour
and to what You accomplished
on the cross as guarantee of
my salvation. Thank You Lord for
paying the ultimate price for my sin.
Forgive me Lord if I have spoken
against You in any way, or have
been motivated by fear and doubt.
I come to You in Faith, believing
that You’ll hear & answer my prayer.
Help me to always Obey You. Amen.

Seeking God In Numbers 14

Prayer of Intercession (Feb 4)

Following the Lord’s instructions,
Moses selects one rep from each
of the 12 tribes to form a scouting
party. Their assignment: to spy out
the defenses of the land and bring
back a sample of the produce.
The 12 return with a divided report!
Ten see only the obstacles while
two see opportunities. The nation
disheartened & faithless, threatens
to stone Moses and return to Egypt
rather than face what lies ahead.
As a result, God condemns that
unbelieving generation to forty
years wandering the wilderness.
Lord, help us see thro Eyes of Faith.
Help us not treat U with Contempt.
Help us Not to Doubt You. Amen.

Lord, we’ll Choose Faith Not Doubt:
Joshua and Caleb said: The land
we explored is a wonderful land!
The Lord will bring us safely into that
land and give it to us… Do not rebel
against the Lord (Num 14:6-9).
The Lord said to Moses: How long
will these people treat me with
contempt? Will they never believe
Me, even after all the miraculous
signs I’ve done among them (v11).
Moses said: If You kill these people,
the nations.. will say: Because the
Lord was not able to bring this pple
to the land which He swore to give
them, (so) He killed them in the
wilderness… As You’ve spoken: The
Lord is longsuffering and abundant
in mercy, forgiving iniquity…
Pardon the iniquity of this people
I pray according to the greatness
of Your mercy… Then the Lord said:
I have forgiven them as you asked.
Because these men who have seen
My glory and signs… have put Me to
the test 10 times & have not heeded
My voice, they shall not see the land
which I swore to their fathers(18-23)

Lord, open my spiritual eyes to
see those exceedingly good things
in my path. Forgive me for focusing
on the problems around me.
As I keep my eyes on You and
the purpose You’ve put before me,
may I go forth in faith, not in fear,
so that I don’t miss the beauty
and blessings each day. Amen.

Lord, it is so easy to let our hearts
be affected by negativity; and treat
You in contempt by not obeying You.
I confess having inclination to live
by sight and not by faith; so Lord
help me reverse that tendency.
I purpose to hang on to Your truth,
even when it may contradict the
visible world and circumstance.
For I want to believe in You Lord
more & more. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Lord, we note that Moses in
his intercession for the Israelites
appeal to uphold the honour of
Your name, Your promises and
Your attributes of mercy and longsuffering; and You relented.
But then the unbelieving Israelites
couldn’t enter the Promised Land.
Lord of Mercy and Longsuffering,
Help us not treat U with Contempt;
Help us Not to Doubt You; and
Help us see You thru Eyes of Faith.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Seeking God In Numbers 12

Prayer of the Meek (Feb 3)

The time has come for the final
journey to Canaan. After a special
celebration of the Passover, the
people watch as the pillar of cloud
begins to move. It’s time to march!
But the thrill of expectation soon
gives way to tedium of travel. And
Moses is faced with numerous
problems: complaints about travel
conditions and food, longings for
the good old days in Egypt, greedy
hoarding of the quail God supplies
and jealousy by Miriam and Aaron
toward his position of leadership.
In spite of the difficulties, the
people finally arrive at Kadesh-
Barnea, on the doorstep of Canaan!

Lord, help us be Humble & Faithful:
(Now… Moses was very humble,
more than all men who were
on the face of the earth…
The Lord came down in the pillar
of cloud and stood at the door of
the tabernacle and called Aaron
and Miriam… Then He said…
My servant Moses; He is faithful…
I speak with him face to face,
even plainly… and he sees the
form of the Lord. Why then were
you not afraid to speak against
My servant Moses (Num 12:3-8)
And when the cloud departed
from above the tabernacle,
suddenly Miriam became leprous…
So Aaron said to Moses: Oh my lord!
Plse do not lay this sin on us, in
which we’ve done foolishly (v10-11).
So Moses cried out to the Lord…
Please heal her O God I pray (v13)

Lord, we note that You God highly
commended Moses, the one to
whom You could speak directly.
He was noted to being the
most humble person on earth.
He was faithful to Your calling
at the burning bush. He kept in
close contact with God and this led
Moses to be a man of intercession.
Draw us Lord to You; and Help us
to be humble and faithful. Amen.

Lord, what a beautiful spirit Moses
manifested in his intercession
for his smitten sister Miriam.
He had no reproach, no angry
denunciations. Revenge was not
in his heart. He had forgiven her.
In his intercession, we see Moses
as a person peculiarly efficacious
in prayer. He came to the throne
with a brief and simple cry:
O God heal her. Grant us grace
Lord to pray importunately for those
who mistreat us. In Jesus’ name.

Lord, help me forgive anyone who
has hurt me, especially loved ones
or friends who have betrayed me.
Enable me to forgive them so
completely that I don’t hesitate
to pray for their need and blessing.
Deliver me from any bitterness,
and help me to live in freedom of
a forgiving heart so that there is
complete reconciliation between us.
For I don’t want to experience the
consequence of holding grudge
against someone. In Jesus’ name.
